AO to QF Short Haul

I have just finished my first trip as QF, it was a 4 day multi sector. It was different and it will take a little while to adjust to the aircraft types and services but I have to say the crew I worked with were fantastic. The support I recieved was wonderful and I have learnt so much. Everyone I crossed crew with were just so welcoming and open to all questions I had. I have learnt more in the last 4 days than I ever learnt in training school. Thankyou so much. Cant wait for my next trip. It has been an absolute pleasure flying with you, but can we do something about slip times, they are way too short.

Glad you had a good trip !

The rest of us in CNS base will be happy to support you with slip time reports regarding the new patterns, but we would have to fly first ! There are 30+ of us still sitting in Cairns that have not flown one sector since Sep 01.

Have called the open time number EVERY day and all that is available is a airport RES or a BNE return on the 763.

It's 2 months since I did my conversion training & myself and 30 others still have not operated on a 734/738/767RR or 333 yet.

Yeah I heard there was something like 35 on reserve, plus 7 CSM's. Don't worry, flying will come. This first roster was a one off, I don't like the seniority thing but thats the way it is and have found out that work positions are also based on that. Most senior works as team leader then next highest gets to choose and so on. It is so different to what we are used to but to be honest the hardest part is the aircraft changes. The crew are fabulous, I hate the 737-400 but I assume all crew do. Babe it's all new, it's all different. I flew with a crew who didn't know the 767 international, I did, I said I do this all the time, so I was able to help them. It works both ways.

Greeting from SYD base, I've had the same experience as Air Doris, great people to fly with, CSMs were supportive and caring, crew were also lovely to work with, they really eased my nerve away. Did a BOM trip, pax weren't that bad as some horrible stories I've heard. The worst though was getting around in BOM, being an AOer, if you thought DPS/MNL were bad, you are in for a real shock in BOM, 10 times worse in my opinion. So much poverty, rubbish, unfinished roads/infrastructures, road rage and all that beeping! No wonder full timers don't do it so often, out of the 10 cabin crews, 7 were MAMers (all fantastic and great to work with).

I got to fly on 734, 767RR and A330 in one trip, at least my fear of different air craft type is half gone. Manual FWA didn't eventuate, so I ended up with the whole month RES, not happy about it, but at least open time in SYD is much better than CNS by the sound of it, can't complain too much. Wishing people in CNS and other bases all the best, can't wait to cross crew with you guys. Take care.

Sorry to hear that lots of crew in CNS are still on RES and haven't flawn (hopefully this has changed since I last logged on). Position wise, CSM almost put me as the team leader for my BOM trip, luckily, another MEL crew was dragged to the trip from DRW, he saved my day; I put my hand up for R4 on the way home, had a go at Galley, just to get used to where things are. For trips that's full of MAMers, you are pretty much the TL.

Just did a PVG, the other way around, pretty senior trip for full timers, CSM had top 3 seniority, you get the idea, and only 2 mamers; I was R1A, had to do JC duties on the ground, and YC duties after take off, a bit odd, I know.

If you've always been a good galley ops, then you've got nothing to worried about, just try to open atlas boxes and get to know where things are as much as possible, you'll be fine.

SYD SH crew are pretty relaxed, I really enjoyed the trips I have done so far.

Hi all, just in from my 2nd 4 day trip, pattern of 1 and had a great time. It was all domestic and all 737-800/400. I loved it. I have crossed crewed with BNE, SYD, MEL crew's but everyday was a different crew and all were so wonderful and supportive, CSM's have been great. To those who haven't yet had the chance, don't worry, you are not walking into anything you don't know. I was worried about the 737, easy peasy. The 800 is so nice to work on, so pax/crew friendly. I have done a heap of Canberras, and although the short flight time is daunting , SYD-CBR 25 min's with a service, it's over before you know it and the crew you are working with know what to do. I have worked R1 a lot and all you have to do is set up the cart for the CSM then you go on the end of the cart in economy. The service is exactly the same as we have done on CNS-BNE or CNS-SYD. I am not used to the "pay" for grog system on certain flights, I feel like I should just be handing it over for free and feel terrible charging for it but you get used to that.
All I can say is go out and have a good time, enjoy the crew, they will teach you a lot, there is so much we "haven't" been told, such as MBNT, my crew were good, I had to sign it to get the allowance. If I wasn;t told I would have had no idea. We have been told nothing. To all crew, know your benefits and ask if you are in doubt. The crew will let you know. If in doubt ask the others on your flight. You must sign this form before you leave that flight.
