15 minutes ago, in my village, an old man out with his dog stopped and looked, and probably remembered too. The workmen laying the road stopped, and two of them clapped. A little girl got a cuddle from her mum as she crouched down with her and pointed up. 3 boys on pushbikes stopped and gaped.

Why?

Because the Phantom was serenely and in her own sweet time, approaching Cott. If I wasn’t taking the picture, I would have done something non military and cringeworthy too, and clapped. I’m sure you know it already chaps, but you’re definitely very much appreciated. Nice one.

Indeed.

As time goes by, and at the risk of appearing melancholy, when I see the BBMF I suppose our thoughts automatically turn to others too. Its a shame that CAS can't even post something when the MoD website promulgates this sad news. We get Brown and his mates and his bosses saying something dignified, but never the brass.

"Christopher was my pride and joy; everybody is heartbroken who knew him. He touched so many lives.
He died courageously serving his country and Queen and we are all very proud of him."

His mum.

Lest we forget indeed. We all wear the same colour hat.
