Going forward with ATPL training...

I've had my PPL since 2003 and have notched up about 100 hours, however due to a job change in 2003 I had no time to study for my ATPL ground school.

I'm looking for costings - just to guage how much training has went up.

I'll have to source updates from BGS and have them confirm that they will still offer support on the Ground School studies side.

What is also putting me off is I've now had 3 driving bans, one for DD - the others for speeding and I've also been admonished on an assult charge. Now this obviously looks bad. Am I wasting my time, or do you think an airline will employ me?

Thats a tough one mate. I'm not sure what the rules are on putting down items on your criminal record - i.e are certain charges removed if you have been a "good boy" for 2 years or whatever which means you don't have to list that down on your application.

But the drunken thing must surely be frowned upon by the airlines. My opinion is that you would be wasting your time - but I'm not even a pilot so what do I know.

In order to be a pilot you need to obtain an airside access pass. To get one of these you need to undergo a criminal records check.

As far as I know, if anything shows up on your records within the last 5 years you cannot get an airside pass.

If you want to check your record, get something called a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland, that will answer your question.

I'm not sure about the 5 year rule though, however the DD isn't good.

Should be correct, as minor crimes usually last no longer than 5 years in criminal records. Airlines require to show them your criminal records... and won't employ you unless you're clean ;)

Driving bans will not stop you getting an airside pass (even the DD), disclosure scotland (if you phone them) will tell you, with specifics what convictions (and their recency) will stop you getting an ASP and what won't, without ever having to spend a penny.
