I am trying to find the answer to this on smartcockpit to no avail; Is there a THS in the 343 as well as the 346 or just the later?

There is a THS on both, and on the A330 as well.

The CX A340's do not have the Aditional Center Tank (ACT) that you may have read about.

Don't you mean Trim Tank?
THS means Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer.
The A330, A340-300 and 600 all have THS's and Trim Tanks. The Trim Tank is in the HST
If you're using smartcockpit look in Flying Controls for the THS and Fuel for the Trim Tank.

pardon me, I did mean trim tank. Thought i'd seen it referenced under that name. So do the 330s have ACT or none of the airbus products?

None of them have the ACT.

PS I just took a stab at what you were getting at in your original question as that is the most common thing people ask.

Ahem,

Guys the A340-500 has something called the RCT, or Rear Centre Tank.

WHich I believe would qualify as an additional centre tank. In fact people who buy this aircraft can even specify the size of the tank if they want it to sretch over 2, 3 or 4 frames in the aft cargo hold.

Hope that helps!!! :ok:

Spanner.

P.S. The fuel system on any A340 is a nightmare but ESPECIALLY the 345. Best (for fuel) stick with boeing- 3 tanks 6 pumps! EASY

I think you will find that the comment made regarding the ACT was in reference to the A340-300. Some of CX’s A340-300’s did infact have ACT’s but were removed to save weight and allow more room for cargo. About five or six years ago there was serious talk within CX about putting the ACT’s back into three A340-300’s so they could do the proposed HKG-JFK non-stop service. Then 911 happened and the rest is history. In the end we acquired three A340-600’s to do this service when it finally started a few years later.

404titan, think you'll find that the ACT required "looking after" when put into storage and the HAECO "dump in the corner and forget" approach meant that when flt ops asked if refitting them was an option for JFK lo and behold on account of their condition it actually wasn't. Or so said a Haeco engineer with a chuckle.

Thanks for that. I actually now recall hearing the same story but with time forgot the exact details.:ok:
