I think the best way to learn english is to move to an english speaking country, find a job, make engish friends. After a year or so you will be fine

Coodem has it right. I am an American with a German Fiance. I met her in college. Her English was okay at first. However, when she graduated, the University hired her as an English teacher. Her degree wasnt even in Englsh, it was marketing. It only took her a short time to improve upon her English to the point where she was able to teach it to Americans. So go to school in an English speaking country. It should do you wonders! I have seen it work first hand. Good Luck!

Spend 3 months in an English speaking country...
Watch BBC and CNN on TV...
Watch your favorite DVD movies dubbed in Italian, then the original in English...
Read comic books in English, and aviation magazines...
Listen to the Beatles music records, reading the lyrics, and... sing along...
Go to "Irish bars" where many Anglo-Saxon tourists go, and chat with them...
Make friends with them...
Try to find a nice regassa who speaks English to you...
Dont worry about making "mistakes" or "mispronounce"... it really does not matter.

I speak English, French and Spanish fully fluently...
I learned these with what I told you as recommendations...
My wife, from Argentina, she spoke NO English, so we spoke Spanish...
I even speak Dutch I learned in school, some German and Portuguese...
When I am in my hotel room in Roma or Milano I watch RAI-TV...
I can read/understand Italian quite well...
I try my few sentences of Italian in restorantes, trattorias and asking my way...
I love to listen to Verdi or Puccini operas, and Andrea Bocelli records...
"Va pensiero, sul'alli dorate..." !!!
I sometimes even read the Italian forum on Pprune...

MARCOFLY, not to be the English grammar police but please allow me to give you a quick lesson.

When you thank people, you do not thank "at" them, you merely thank them.

The proper way for you to thank a group of people would be "Thank you all"

I am learning German right now and make the same kinds of mistakes...

You seem like you have a very good understanding of the English language, just keep learning. Good luck!

I am french and I'm improving my english too as long as I have time.
I spent only one month this year in UK.

But before going in UK I read a lot (magazines, books...) and watched a lot of DVD's. It's really really helpfull.

By the way I was in a school of english during the month, I have improved a little bit my grammar, but that's all. I learned by myself in France the most of time.I had the level Upper-Intermediate whereas a lot of students (from germany, Japan etc) were at the school 3 or 4 months ago and their level was intermediate only or less.

I would say the most important you must be motivated and you can learn any languages.
If you have a few knowledges of english I think the best way to learn it is working in UK in a pub or others.

But before, try (for example) :
- Vocable (magazines+CD) it's very good
- DVD (Friends or Ally McBeal) they speak very well even if it's american english.
- Read a lot (Harry Potter) a good book is "Airframe".

Other advice, a baby who learn his language, he repeats the words, just like that.
So I tried to learn by heart many pages and you will learn many idioms. It is the most difficulty part I think, Idioms.

a good place to start would be to head down to the British Council and enrol yourself in a course eg: english as a second language for beginers.
