I have a German-born mate who is interesting in flying for Air Berlin or Germania - both IT charter carriers. Any German (or other nationality) pilots familiar with these carriers and their lifestyles, pay, morale, work conditions, etc.? Do they have ab initio programs? Would you work there?

Yes, I have seen their websites. I would appreciate some first or second-hand insights if possible.

Cheers

Tell him to check out

www.pilots.de (http://www.pilots.de)...

A German forum like PPRuNe.
He should get some answers to his questions there.

No ab-initio programs with those companies, though. (Germania even had some "dentist-FOs" paying (!!) to fly RHS a while ago)
You even have to bring a German ATPL, pay for the TR (as far as I now).
Both companies donŽt pay too well - most people accumulate jet-time there, and try to move on to greener pastures...

Hi Lavdumper.
Tried to get a Job with Air Berlin, got my Cv send back twice "Sorry, weŽre already full". Despite this, they continue to post new "Job opportunities".
According to german newsmag "Der Spiegel", they had some 800+ applications in 2000 and added 92 to their roster.
And LongRange theory is another thing youŽd have to have.
