Especially for those of you who route near Kufra VOR there is a sad story about three aircraft that got lost in that area in 1942, with disasterous results:

Operated into Kufra many times between `81 to `83, had no idea of this tragedy all those years before.
Very, very sad. The Sahara region is very unforgiving, as the Libyan Chinook crew found after trying to "walk out"
from the wrong side of the Sudanese border in the early `80s.
