Anyone had experience on picking up work as a ferry pilot on Boeing types through the agencies?

How does it work and what is required? :)

Thanks

I'd imagine anything along these lines is done in-house. . .

Hola pdg75 -
xxx
What kind of ferries are you asking about... ?
There are many types of ferries...
xxx
The ones I do generally are for B-747s (100-200-300-SP) -
I do various ferries for my airline, as a management pilot...
I am also on the availability list of various "crewing" office/agencies.
They might call me to ferry an aircraft from "A" to "B"...
Generally it is to or from "desert storage" airfields such as -
Mojave and Victorville (California), or Kingman and Marana (Arizona)...
xxx
Circumstances vary, i.e. airplane going to be converted to beer cans... last flight -
Or airplane stored after months or years in desert, is ferried to new operator -
Can also be a "maintenance ferry" - engine-out ferry, or gear-down ferry -
Or airplane seized by banks/leasing companies, for non-payment of lease -
xxx
As I was previously qualified B-707, B-727, DC-8, I have flown some of these long ago.
For this you need a current licence, validated for a flight on these types.
Then you hit the books, and spend hours in cockpit to figure where the switches are...
Boeing is notorious for "differences"... a 747-236 is completely different from a 747-287 -
A lot of paperwork required for ferries, sometimes test flight(s).
Do not expect year-round employment. I average maybe 2 or 3 such flights yearly...
xxx
Any questions... ?
:)
Happy contrails

I would think this is a rather narrow market as new aircraft needs an acceptances"Test flight" and are done by the senior "technical" pilots and one or two lucky chaps from HQ. In our case anyway , Seattle to Europe.
European LOCO here.
Would love to do one , but its never going to happen.
The other odd flight sounds like fun for a retired chap.
Have fun

I know a couple of guys who work for FTI who do occasional ferry work. They maintain cruuency as sim instructors. I can't imagine only doing it flying airplanes.

Hi gals/guys,

How does one manage a personal subscription to Jepp FD Pro? No joy via google (Jepp official website), nor the app (expired login previously used by my airline).

Thanks in advance,

Drvr

Jepp FD Pro is licensed to the airline based on the number of aircraft tails. You'll probably need to talk to a Jepp sales rep about getting a license, and I'm not sure they do personal licenses.

Thanks ShamrockF,

How do "medium jet across the pond" ferry pilots deal with having their own subscription being a requirement then?

They seem to have discontinued FliteDeck for Windows app for personal use. For what reason I don't know. It's has many more features than the iPad app but also trickier to operate. If you have an old installation DVD which has the FliteDeck app, try setting the date of the laptop back before the date on the DVD, then it might install. You gotta know what you're doing though, as it is usually coupled with FliteStar and JeppView for which you will have to have a subscription.

Thanks, but my problem is that i can't get a subscription as a private individual. I don't mind paying for it, in fact i can even get it reimbursed, but as a private entity i can't get around the problem as it seems.

Maybe consider Foreflight?

A321drvr, no you cannot. It is an enterprise-grade solution. Why is Jeppesen Mobile FD not sufficient?

I don't know. Is it approved for IFR flying over the pond?

Hopefully BOEING will get out of the MAX Disaster and ending ferry flights....:\

Thanks for the tips: looked into mobile fd and it should do it, indeed.

Is it not? Who hands out such certificates?

It's not that just NAT-HLA is not available as a region to be bought. USA: yes, Western Europe: ditto, but nothing in between...
