Wondering if anyone might direct me to find information concerning pay and conditions at BMI. Would also appreciate input from any current, or former, British Midland pilots.

In short, pay and conditions mid-range for uk carriers. Recently announced 109 redundancies who are due to be booted out the door on the 23rd Jan. Crewing department must be the world's most inefficient.
But, shiny aircraft and plenty of potential for the future. They will survive the current downturn. Some might say that bmi don't deserve the calibre of staff they have. By the savage nature of the recent redundancies and demotions, it would be difficult to disagree.

The airline itself is basically a good airline with a great bunch of guys to fly with on line, pay is not to bad now thanks to the latest round of pay talks, but the big downer is crewing and the amount if crap dished out, route variety is fairly minimal being that it is mainly a schedelued airline, but when current climate had passed and the 109 are re-employed (asap) there it a lot of potential for the future in a nice fleet of a/c

Thanks for responding guys. Do you think BMI will be able to remain independent until it grows into a major(I assume that, that is its intention).

I hope so. The boss is a survivor, and through his stewardship I and hundreds of others still have a job. If he were to sell out to a predatory major, eg. Lufthansa (who already have a stake in bmi), then who knows what the future may hold.
bmi has long haul aspirations that pivot on getting permission to operate to mainland USA from LHR. It's political, but the company is long-term bullish on the outcome.

When SAS originally bought their 40% stake in BM they got the "right" to buy the remaining 60% should they be offered for sale.
There is no doubt that SAS/Lufthansa will take over BMI should they get the chance .. at some point SAS will merge with Lufthansa as well .. maybe the new name will be LufthanSAS :)

I am about to be made redundant on Monday from bmi. Just as others have said before me, it is a good company to work for with nice a/c and a busy european network out of LHR. When I joined bmi, they were just about to start Transatlantic services from MAN. What the company really need is for the BA/AA deal to go ahead so we can expand across the pond from LHR. This would, I feel help me and 108 others avoid the axe that is being sharpened as I type.
Crewing is truely dredful. Not in keeping with the excellent crews that keep the show on the road day in, day out.

"Crewing" seems to be a common complaint, I assume that this is a reference to scheduling. Is it imposed on you? Can you can bid based on seniority? Would appreciate any expansion of this point.
