EUROCONTROL to identify causes of airspace infringement
Travel Daily News, 7 August 2007
EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation with the help of the European Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) have launched a questionnaire designed to identify causes of airspace infringement.
Airspace infringement is known to be a major safety issue and one of the key causes of mid-air collisions. The questionnaire is aimed at General Aviation pilots, and asks them to share their experience and knowledge about the reasons for airspace infringement and how to prevent it from happening. The responses from the questionnaire will be used as part of airspace infringement risk analysis and mitigation.

“EUROCONTROL with the help of the European arm of AOPA is determined to reduce the risk for all those who use airspace,” said Alexander Krastev, Airspace Infringement Initiative Coordinator at EUROCONTROL. “We do it by coordinating and supporting the safety improvement efforts of aviation professionals in Europe. We collect and analyse incident data, we consolidate good practices and experiences, but we still believe in asking those people who are active on a daily basis for their explanations and suggestions for improvement. This questionnaire will help us to collect a wide range of additional information which will in turn contribute to saving lives.”

The questionnaire will be available on-line until September and takes about twenty minutes to fill in. All information supplied is confidential and will not be provided to any third parties.
