I happened to be passing close to RAF Tattershall today, with a non-aviation chum who enquired as to whether the Typhoon was ready for service yet. We diverted to watch the aircraft, and saw large numbers of Typhoon's recovering and launching, including aircraft from every squadron.
I'd been giving him the usual blah about performance when 'BJ' of 29 took off - doing a very passable impression of a Lightning, pulling into an incredibly steep (not vertical, but it looked close) climb after a gob-smackingly short take off roll. His jaw dropped, and so did mine. I hadn't seen a Typhoon do that, that impressively.
My friend was almost as impressed by the pilot of 17 Squadron's 'AF', taxying out behind the OEU's Pirate jet, who gave a cheery wave and blipped his airbrake.
Between them, these two pilots did more for RAF communications than DCC has managed in the last year!
