Please let me know if you are keen on my E-mail address and we can get the ball rolling

Hi Monty 'n all

Well guy`s as most have probably heard, we have had a fatal accident here in Maun. The 1st of May will go down as a black day. All here are in a state of shock, and mourning the loss of Richard and those on board.

What you guys may read on the posting about the Botwana crash isn't entirely accurate.

The accident was seen by one of the Delta Air boys, who was about 0.5 a mile behind, also on a game flight.

There is a memorial service tomorrow 4 May, in a nearby chapel. We will all be there to lend support to the family who have arrived in Maun, and to the Maun flying fraternity.

I will post more news once more becomes available.

Dirk
6th May 2001, 19:35

I have been getting quite a lot of e-mails lately asking for information on flying in Maun, and Maun in general, so instead of replying to everyone individually here it is,

The season in Maun begins about end of May begining of June and lasts until about November. The best time to pitch up looking for a job is around Jan or Feb when the companys start looking for new guys to fly the next season, it takes about two to three months to do your line training and get your work and resident permits before going on line.
There are eight companys based in Maun and between fifty and sixty full time pilots live and work out of Maun.
The fleets vary but all fly the C-206, other A/C incude C-172, 207, 210, Cessna Grand Vans, and Islanders.

I think what will also help is reading through this thread and figure out what all the lads are like, this will give you a good idea

Gidday all you Maun dogs out there. I thought I'd got away from all you smelly buggars years ago but the old boys turn up everywhere. You might remember me as Juliet Charles or Duano.
Monty you crazy little man, are you still there shagging all the overlanders and bar girls? I'm a bit too far away to talk to you on scrot, I'm in NZ flying metro's with TAU and Greg. Missing the bush.
Irish, howsit going in Paradise.
Swamp Rat, put me on the list.

Cheers all.

Duano, long time no hear mate !! Really good to find that you`re in one piece and I am very sure keeping the art of womenizing to it`s usual high :D ;) :D
Have you heard from KC ? I last spoke to him about 2 months ago, flying Dash-8s I think.
When are the 2 of you going to get your arses out here and come and drink copious amounts of Castle ;)

We are going to try for a big reunion some time next year, I will let you all know more when it`s finalised.

I had a look at those photos of that trip that we did to Moremi with Ev, Lou and Craig the other day, we need to do that again sometime.
Give me a shout on my E-mail address and I will get back to you with some more news !

Duano keep well mate,

Read this thread and it will give you an idea as to what it`s like bush flying in the Okavango Swamps, in northern Botswana.

I posted some info on about page 5 as to when how and where, I hope it helps ?

Hi guys.Got about 5 mins to spare before heading back out to the now smoke infested okavango swamps.Flying in Maun at the moment is flat out and i think all the boys are suffering. That maybe from too many nights at the bull and bush in the last week though (Fat Matt is back in town).Swamp one i never met you i got here just after you left.Have heard some stories though.I have had sox about a year now hes still the same, sniffing crouches and eating the odd dead donkey on the side of the road.We have taught him to sniff overland truck girls now before one of the filthy maun pilots trys to take her home and finds something he doesnt like.

Brado that Carmen chick is asking about you so i gave her your number and she said shes coming over to visit. For those of you that dont know about Carmen then i wont say anything more than two words (16 and fat).Don't worry mate im only joking i hear your making up for 2 yrs with no root over in the Carribean.

Knobjuice hows things are you back in London or still on the **** with Irish. We need to meet up to have a beer and i now have more good yarns for you that i think you will like.P.S I flew hitler youth chick to Oddballs the other day i filled her in on what your up to.

Tau you mother f****r.Hows life pushing buttons and earning **** pay.Sick of The Mt - Hamilton - The Mt yet? Still polling here at Delta but have handed in my notice and will be leaving end of November. One months holiday in Europe then NZ then maybe follow the smell and head on over to the beach lifestyle.Might catch up with in NZ when i return.

Later all you Maun and ex Maun losers.

Since this seems to be the place for information. How about any Helicopter Companies in that area looking for qualified drivers. Mainly Bell series 205/206 I dont do Robbies...
Also to the guy in Alaska, why would one want to leave Beautiful Barrow........NOT Work Permits and licensing on the Dark Continent are arcaic beyond belief. It was much better when they had no rules and if Mugarbage keeps it up that may happen again. Say hello to all the fun folks in FAI...(ex-Tundra driver)
