I came accross these in my mother's loft recently. Taken around the time Bristows bought BEAS in the late 70s. A couple feature yours truly in short trousers. Sorry about the poor quality they have been transferred from very old slides.

The BEAS Hangar at Coventry with WESTLAND BELL SOLOY 47G-3B-1 TURBINE G-BEHN & a Jetranger.

And in the middle seat. This may be BHL rather than BEAS but around the time of the takeover.

Last contract for Bristow was offshore support from Takoradi, Ghana, 2011 if memory serves, then to be sold. It was a surprise to see the old girl there as I have vivid memories of the BEAS fleet in the Brent from 1977, when it was common to see different livery as Peter was robbed to pay Paul in order to remain serviceable. One 212 turned up for a shuttle with a tail and a door from 2 others, all in different colour schemes. LZ and G-BDIL were I believe 2 but I forget the other.

1977 we had BDIL, BBBP, BERF, BCMC, BFES and BFER. BALZ arrived just before Christmas 1977, BARJ in June 1978, BFVE in July 1978.

As mentioned, an eclectic mix of colour schemes:

Just to add to the mix. G-BARJ flown by the late John Grantham with possibly the Sumburgh Airport hotel manager at the time, arriving at the Lerwick helipad.

John/Ambi: Great shots!

Have seen the tall bearded gentleman wearing the 'orange' rugby shirt in quite a number of Bristow photos.

Another BEAS 212:

Ah ha .. so there is a BEAS thread! All these little gems that Senior Pilot pulls out of the PPRuNe archives from time-to-time! :E

Oldlae: Grazie. Is he still 'helicoptering' or happily retired?

BEAS....the "Other" Helicopter company......for a while!

I recall a fellow named John Tanigawa, who was called "Frosty" due to there being a "Nip" in the air.

John was quite a character. When things were turning bad, his favourite saying was 'we have a little situation developing here".

Ambi: Great shots. :ok: The colour is well depicted (and, as John mentioned, somewhat unique) on BDIL.

Adding more BEAS to the hive; for posterity.

Absolutely great thread. Way before my time, although I flew G-BALZ quite a bit. Queen of the skies. Everyone has a history, and so does every aircraft.

G-BALZ at Kidlington in February 1973 when it was owned by Oxford Heli-Services (effectively BEAS) just before we took it to Dublin then on to Cork as EI-AWK of Irish Helicopters.....

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p230/Democritus1/G-BALZ---Kidlington_zps68xth4dz.jpg

...and as EI-AWK, brought over from Dublin for the very first Offshore Oil Exhibition at Aberdeen University on 19 March 1973. For those who know Aberdeen WK was parked in the University grounds on the corner of St Machar Drive and Bedford Road.

I recall a fellow named John Tanigawa, who was called "Frosty" due to there being a "Nip" in the air.

I remember John had a peculiar way of hunkering down in the seat of a 212 with his arse at the very front of the seat sling. He was barely able to see over the middle of the coaming and often preferred to fly steep approaches by looking through the chin panels. Something to do with his experiences of flying the 205 in a faraway place to the East where he wasn't warmly welcomed by the locals, IIRC.

I tried to post a note and some pictures but obviously I can't do that because I have not posted 8 times. Don't understand that. There was no URL included in my attempted post...
