View Full Version : Immigrating to NZ from Canada

Hi Folks,
Apologies in advance if this isn't the correct forum for this kind of question. I'm a 25 year old Canuck pilot with just over 3000 hours and type rated on the Saab 340. Have always loved NZ and have been interested in immigrating there for quite some time. In looking through the point system, I've learned that I would qualify for a permanent work visa.
Just a few questions: What is the state of the aviation industry in NZ? Are companies actively hiring? And if so, are they generally open to hiring outsiders? Would there be any shot at Air New Zealand if and when they continue hiring pilots? Are training bonds the norm in NZ?
Would certainly appreciate anyone's opinion on this subject. Thanks in advance!
Cheers!
Mattler

Pac Blue pilots are hired by 2 seperate contracting companies, Rishworth and contract air services. Applicants have an interview and,if sucessfull, will have to get a type rating before starting with them.
Jet connect also require you to have a type rating prior to employment.
At the moment Air NZ is hiring and this is obviously creating movement through the regional airlines (eagle, air nelson and mt cook). These companies provide type ratings and bond their pilots for approx 2 years.
As for whether they hire "outsiders" i'm not sure.

No problem with "outsiders" with the parent Air NZ, the requirement is NZ right to live and work. Some Canadians, a few Yanks, some pom's and even a growing number of Aussies in Air NZ.

Eagle Air looking for Direct Entry captains, Air Nelson and Mt Cook employing. Jetconect (pretend Qantas) and PacBlue employing as well.

Keep up tinpis!!

There's a drastic "man shortage" in New Zealand.

Statistics say a woman my age has the same chance of getting a man as a woman aged 65. ( I think they might trump me with the false teeth...)

So I'm just doing my part for International Relations and trying to get more men in our country. Not fussy, just men.

This reminds me of when I was visiting a good mate who has a few acres on the Canterbury Plains, I was admiring his prize sheep, they were very handsome and fluffy!! I asked him if they were for shearing, he said he wasn't going to shear them with me or anyone!!!:ugh:

Not only has this thread been hi-jacked, but it has been flown to the Bahamas and is now basking in the sunshine with a pinacolada, and might go windsurfing or jet skiing this afternoon, provided it's worked on it's tan sufficiently and isn't too toasted on cocktails:cool:
