I know this is not African, however... has it happened here? Can you imagine it???

Nice, France - A runway at Nice airport on France's riviera coast had to be closed for five hours on Thursday because of an invasion of snails.

Heavy rains had flooded the ground on either side of the tarmac, forcing hundreds of thousands of snails onto the tarmac of the north runway overnight, officials said.

"Snail slime was spread over the whole of the landing area so we decided to go ahead with a clean-up," said the airport's management.

After sweeping three kilometres of runway, airport workers collected five cubic metres of snails. A similar invasion happened 15 years ago, officials said.

Traffic at France's second most important airport was diverted to a second runway with little disruption.

Can't see JIA being closed because of an infestation of Parktown Prawns, somehow.... :) :) :)

Definitely won't find JIA closed because of Parktown Prawns, considering that I think they are generally used in the first class Hors 'd Oevres... ;) ;) ;)
