View Full Version : Any Details about a 1990 Nairobi B707 Accident ?

The Captain's son is seeking any details that may be available (from any source) regarding his father's accident (detail below). Please post (with discretion) and/or pass to [email protected] for onforwarding. Cause may appear obvious, believe Nairobi (Wilson) is a GA strip (ATR's & bizjets maybe), however preceding scenario would help the chap involved come to terms with his aftermath issues.

Remarks:
The Boeing 707 freighter struck an electricity pole 3mls short of Runway 06 and crashed in flames. Visibility was 500m in fog with a 100ft cloudbase.

The plane was landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, not Wilson.

For whatever reason, it's believed that they were doing a non-precsion approach(VOR 06)
and flew into the ground. I visited the site and there was very little forward distance covered, matter of 100 yards or so and the aircraft was totaled..engines and rear pressure dome were the largest parts I saw..
cannot tell you the reason..hope this at least clarifies the airport..
