Hi boys and girls of Pprune land.
A friend of mine asked me how much it would be to lease a 20-30 seat turbo-prop??
Like SAAB 340 or a Beech 1900 or similar. As I didn't know I'm forwarding the question to you ppruners.....

Some info: the aircraft is to be flown by pilots from the company that wants to lease and the aircraft is to be flown in Africa.

Thanks in advance for any info. :)

Can't give you accurate figures although a 5 year old ATR 42 was quoted at around $95k recently, for use in Africa. The problem is that the leasing and finanace companies are scared of leasing aircraft into Africa in case they can't get them back if you default on the payments. Add in War Risk insurance (required in most parts of Africa even if there is no war because it is really deprivation insurance) and you have an expensive operation. Finance companies will be the same I'm afraid.

Hope this helps

$95k (US) per month was the quoted rate. Also similar for a Dash 8 series 300.

Sorry I don't have any info on the B1900 size aircraft.

ACMI (Wet)

Let 410 : $1200 per hour (approx)+/- 17 pax
Be 1900 : $1500 per hour (approx)+/- 19 pax
G 159 : $1800 per hour (approx)+/- 24 pax
HS 748 : $2000 per hour (approx)+/- 30 pax

Price should drop with guaranteed hours.
Hope this gives you some idea.

AK747 the going rate for a dry lease of a Dornier 228 (19 seats) or similar is about $20,000 per month plus maintenance reserves. Wet this type of aircraft will cost you about $600 per block hour but it really isn't possible to quote without knowing what/where/hours/cycles etc. It is easier to get Russian aircraft into Africa but as I said all depends where it is?

I could give anyone costs and provide details for bigger aircraft ( thats my business) but since I am already nursing badly burned fingers from West Africa ointment is required first!

You may find many aircraft owners/lessors feel the same way and will don asbestos gloves first with an inflated price and huge guarantees.

If my memory serves me correctly a Metro IIIB ( SA227 ) was around 13500-15000 USD a month including engine reserve.Either Cargo or PAX interior or both.

If you're looking for twin otters/king airs, try Zimex. They've had ops most places in Africa at some stage so know the lay of the land. Believe you can find them on the net these days at www.zimex.com

They do come at a price though, and acft are crewed/maintained.

Depends what you're looking for...

Good Luck!
