Found this one in my list of sample question, I am a bit stumped as how to answer this one. Any suggestions? (I know how to answer the first part, it's the second I struggling with)

"What do you know about the 49ers? What do you think about the situation?"

the only person who can answer question 2 is yourself. you have your own opinions although i wouldn't be surprised if some unhappy cx pilot is gonna jack this thread and start bad mouthing the company. (look at thread in non-wannabes section)

Tell them how great a job they did at beating up the aircrew and the AOA how subservient you will always be because of it!

Or, you could do some research, formulate your own opinion and tell them exactly what they want to hear (which may or may not jive with your views on the matter).

... not an unhappy CX pilot b.t.w. (an ex. unhappy one!)

You could try: "I believe the company did what it thought was in the best interests of the greater cx community...". Brownie points galore. :ok:
Just don't add in what really should come after that sentence: "...by exercising two unwritten tenets of company policy towards their aircrew: intimidation and self censorship." :eek:
I genuinely hope you don't get asked anything like that. Best of luck with your interview.

Be very careful how you answer this because it is a political question and “MUST” be treated as such, i.e. answering the question without answering the question. You must not appear to be taking sides. You don’t know who you will have interviewing you. You could have a line or training captain who were opposed to what the company did or you could have someone from management that was involved in it from the start. Try saying something like, “It was a very unfortunate event for all concerned, both the 49’ers and CX and I am sure lessons have been learnt because of the mistakes that were made”.

A bunch of guys that CX sacked for no reason!...
Then when they ask why would you want to join us then?
I replied, well I think it was a mistake and think CX have learned from it and moved on!
ha ha ha.....
What I should have said:
Something like...... Don't know enough to make a comment, sorry....
What I wish I said:
YOU GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF MORONS AS THIS HAS NO BEARING ON MY INTERVIEW.... I WISH TO WITHDRAW MY APPLICATION AS I NO LONGER WISH TO WORK FOR A CRAP COMPANY LIKE CX.........

Bottom line is if they ask this they are setting you up to say the wrong thing, as any questions on unions and seniority numbers etc.... You just have to have a prepared answer that seems neutral........

I heard about the 49ers the first time a few years ago. Having not flown for CX nor in Asia, I did not put too much thought into the subject. It is only after I joined Oasis HK Airlines, that I actually met and flew with quite a few of them. (...and learned quite a few details about the matter and the severity of personal pain, that has been experienced by some of these guys)

Without exception, everyone of those I know is an outstanding airman, very good CRM and thoroughly likeable guys. (That's why they probably got fired in the first place at CX)

Of course, I don't know the other side of the story but I did have the chance to make up my own mind and my conclusion is that CX made a big mistake (IMHO), that will follow them for a long long time.

I almost think, that being a 49er is a qualification, that should yield an advantage during the interview.

I completely agree with Avius. We have a couple of the 49'ers over here ( my simpartner was one) and all of them are great pilots and very nice people to be around with.
The way they have been treated by CX is a disgrace to the aviation industry!!!

I have flown with 3 49'ers.

All are gentleman to a fault.
