View Full Version : QR Longest Serving Staff Member?

homesick rae
13th Jul 2007, 20:55
As an ex QR employee who lasted over 5 years, I just wondered who you might believe to be the longest serving QR staff member that you know of? It is NOT SK btw!

I'll go for, if they are still there, TS in ops or S in crewing.

Purely a bit of fun.

I know that when I was there, there were a number of crew who had joined the company from the very beginning...yes...the pre Al Bakar days when things were good and a money swindling alcoholic pilot Shiekh ran the airline!!! Or so the story goes! :}

Of the "onboard" team, I believe that NP and MB (Sri Lankan and Filipina respectively) are perhaps longest serving cabin crew. And both of them excellent too!

(You will both know these two females that I am referring to.)

A300 Man, ah there you are! NP yes....MB? Bizarrely both me and the Mrs have had a mental block on that one!?

Paddy, yep things were good in them days! Although some of the crew (most of them gone) took advantage of the "relaxed" lifestyle. I remember being in the Ramada after a flight with two clear days off ahead of me. Crew were in there on standby!! Don't know if they have recovered the bar top but you can clearly see names engraved on there!! LOL! It was fun and NO hassles!

Even SK had his AŁ$e kicked by the Cabin Crew Manager!

BTW I am still in touch with H Al T. I know him from EK days.

homesick rae
14th Jul 2007, 18:07
Fractional,

Yes!!! Mohmen!? The tea boy...is that who you mean? Although I still think Samir in crewing is a strong possibility or Arnie in IT/Marketing?

Hey what about Alain Khafaje (permanent SFS)?

I am sure "I am Mobeen" would have been a contender if he hadn't defragmented the system during a back up saving process!!

Nice one,

I visited DOH several times from the very start of the airline and I met quite a number of people. I lost touch with loads of them.
However it strikes my brain archives that there might be a dispatcher still there and I believe, if he is still there, he is the first company despatcher. I thought he had left, but I was told around 6 months ago that the guy is still there. The tea boy, however, may well be his senior because the founder had a guy who used to serve (loads of) tea and coffee up to intoxication.

14th Jul 2007, 21:30
A300 Man:

I am humbled! Of course!!! MB could well be.

Fractional:

Tim Shanny has been there since the beginning I THINK, then Iftikhar who I knew at EK, but I thought he had left, or are you talking about the Sri Lankan chap...can't recall his name. A300 Man might...?

Interesting.

Cheers for all the responses.

Homesick Rae, the Sri Lankan chap is definitely Indian. I do not remember coming across any Sri Lankan in Dispatch during the first 2 years.
Does anyone know the wheabouts of a guy I met several times (GF, CX and QR) called ...... McCreedy (perhaps not the best spelling)? Tks.

homesick rae

Fractional,

Brian McCreadie? When he left QR he went back to CX. Might still be there.

Brian McCreadie, that's him. Tks. His brother was a DJ with Radio Bahrain. We could get the radio across the Gulf proper in those very hot and humid days/nights. I can still get it, but there is some interference from another station with a (very) close freq.
Going back to the topic "QR Longest Serving Staff", I just got news of the guy's name I was referring to. He is known as Shiva(das) or Siva(das) and I got to know the guy is still there. He was the first dispatcher and probably one of the few pioneers left serving QR to date. Any other name(s)?

A300Man
15th Jul 2007, 17:47
goodness!

Brian MacCreadie's name brings back so many other names - past and present - some of whom I honestly have no idea if they are still there or not!! But, names which were (are) synonymous with the inception and establishment of Qatar Airways as a really good carrier:

Joyce Brennan / Arni Fornolles / Diana Hall / Nafees Ali Amin / Ruby Lionel / Mohammed Jalal / Saleh Haroon / Mark Turner / Simon Sassine / Peter and Jamal (the telephone operators in the main building) / Archie D'Mello / Faye Waterman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (eye shadow diva) / Mamma Jo / Greg Epps / "Bernard" / Rosalina Fahmi / Yuva Bhatia.............

BKK,

Cheers.

Just a bit of fun but it's got us all thinking.

Mark Turner is with DNATA. Saw him in DXB last year and he turned his nose up at me!LOL!Was recently seen on the "Where Are They Now" forum...albeit briefly. Check the responses and you'll understand why!

Saleh Haroon with Miss Egan. Rosalina asked to leave because of her age!? What about her value to QR???

Joyce and I go way back to EK days in the 80s. She was Purser on my flight over to DOH with Sheikh Hamad as Captain. I remember we'd brought on some Vodka and were being supplied with all the tonic/soda and ice we needed!

Arni is still there and we are in touch.

Others operating were Haydee Pangan, Alain, Dominic Cashin (now with Easyjet @ LTN)

Khalid Jaziri, could never forget, just age! Kevin, is he still there?

Thanks for joining in!

Hey BKK, I was in KRT earlier this year with Elkhier!! Had a wonderful 10 days there. He is still doing fine. Helping out the smaller airlines down there as a consultant and involved in other areas too! Abdulhameed working with UN in Darfur.

Met with Captain Widaa there too, ex QR if you remember him!

Really?

B727 OM procedure:

Aft airstairs NOT up, warning light.

Inflight, if the airstairs are accessible, F/E is required to check them. If they aren't up, upon reaching traffic pattern altitude, accomplish the depressurization procedure and then attempt to close them.

Shouldn't have been a problem if B hydraulic system was OK.

It's no wonder the airstair thing raised some eyebrows!

The emergency evacuation in Bangladesh did too. It's not normal 'practice' to have to do an emergency evacuation after a birdstrike on takeoff. Unless you are going VERY fast when you decide to do it, and very bad things happen as a result (which they did on that occasion as I remember).

I worked in the Gulf in the early days of Qatar Airways. I travelled with them a lot, and trips up to London on the old B747-100 SR81's were great. I always thought that the cabin crew in those early days were real 'stars' of the airline.

You really deserved better treatment than you got, and are still getting these days by the sounds of things.

I had to register only to comment on this. Fantastic thread! Although most of you lot seems to be QR pioneers from the 90's!

Houda (HC) was of a very certain character! Still there when I left 2003. She did have her moments. Is she still floating about?

Is Joachim Sancher (F/O A320) still there? Stephane Magnin?

What a thread HR, allow me to pay a bow for that buddy.:D
I was in QR 1997---2003 and yes what a time I had there, I think those years were the best of my life in terms of friendship, exploring and acquiring new knowledge.
A300 Man I have to agree with you that Laura is a lady and has her own style.
BKK I think I can say who you are by now and one of the things I love about working with QR was to be with people like yourself.
Guys how come you all forgot about F.Shaikh , M.hassn ,K.Manzi but I can not remember her friend that nice English girl. Denees (if I am not misspelling the name )The other Riyadh , Elias shibir , K.Homsi T.desouza. Merell desouza and his Ausi girlfriend V.tewari (the General’s Daughter ) and her Gang .

One of the flights that I will never forget was QR 001 30/12/1999, spent 31st in London and had a big party at the hotel, QR and Gf crew, it was very sweet of the QR ground Staff to bring Home cooked food with them, (K.Ma, Wi, Da) all were there, The F/D and The C.C requested this flight from September and it was good, The idea came from the Great A/JO :D bless him.

Yes all good memories indeed.

Down here in the Phils we found some old pics with Luke Luwis, Nadia Tunbari and many more!

11223344: Ah you must have been there then! There was only one person with me (female FA) when I had my accident one lunchtime and, by the english it definitely wasn't you!. Oh AND I travelled back on EK in uniform and went straight into the office to chat with Romeo. So there goes that drinks theory! Ha ha! Brian McCreadie was my boss for 15months and a good one too. Vivienne was a colleague. Perhaps you should check your facts before trying to hijack the thread with derogatory remarks. Perhaps you can also tell me all about my accident, where and when it happened and how? But I will enlighten you with one thing, I had a nurse in my room for the first 24 hours afterwards...and it wasn't social!! LOL! Please feel free to PM me for any clarification and confirmation you might need to satisfy your warped mind. I'd be only too happy to oblige.

this thread is about people who invested some of their time in QR , some of us loved it or at least the bright side of it. and we still carry great respect to all those whom we worked with and lived with in Doha and QR as organization.
still some of us use QR for their travel.

hr - the facts are clear. no one said you travelled qtr or ek on the way back. fyi - the incident occured because - as always - you were heavy on the drinks. the rest as you know mr. kw was common knowledge amongst the crew, including ms. hb's friends. now cut the snigger and stop pretending to be the full time loyalist that you claim to be. also why not mention the person after bm, equally corrupt and yet again your good friend until he too let you down and then you went on a trip about him. recall the training a-mk gave you in sep? she kept you in place didnt she? 2 people that kept you in place were bg (aussie or kiwi bloke) and a-mk. i left 7 months after you.

ps: Would you come back to QR if there was a "regime" change? Just curious..... ...........of all the ex staff can you please stay away, even if a regime change was in place - big favor to qr.

A300 Man thanks for reminding me of Bobby what is he now? CSD ?
BG,,, He once asked for a White Wine on a flight, but the crew did not have a wine opener (that was after 9/11 and the security measures). the CS was newly promoted and the F1 was a senior who was recently demoted All they could do was to push the cork down the bottle, and hold it in a way that BG would not see it. But they will honest enough to tell him when he came back to DOH so something could be done about that.

HR needs to look inwards prior to commenting about things outside.

11223344,

This thread is a good humoured one and it is an opportunity for those who want to recall their time with QR and makes for a welcome change from all the other stuff that is usually posted about the company today. There were good times, you know!

You are ruining it by attacking some of the correspondents who are posting here, and you are focussing on personal attacks on certain individuals.

So, please either get into the proper mood and participate in a proper way and stop the personal slanging, OR, it is best not to visit the thread at all.

With regard to Azman, when did he move to Dubai? Are you sure he is there? Good news if he is! He was one great guy actually. What about yourself - what are you now doing in Canada? (I see from your profile you are now based in Canada). Are you flying there for one of the airlines?

I wonder how many people would have liked to stay a bit longer at Quick Resignation, but were asked to leave for no particular reason.
Thats a thread I would like to have a read of.
For example, I recently was heard of someone who was told they were TOO OLD to remain with the company and sent home.
