Virgin 602, departing JNB last night suffered an overtemp on engine no. 4, resulting in RTO on 03L. "Foxtrot Tango" reported flames on undercarriage while aircraft was stationary just short of "F" taxiway. Fire apparently self-extinguished after Tower warned of a possible evacuation. Aircraft then taxied slowly back to D41 uneventfully. Pax,Crew no doubt were relieved. Believe a/c still on ground. Well handled by all, goodshow!

What type of aircraft was it? Our airline had an inquiry today to ship a V2500 engine to JNB tomorrow on AOG basis...just wondering

No, the V2500 engine was not for the A340 since Virgin's A340s are powered by CFM56 engines.

The V2500s probably would have been for SAA's A320s perhaps?

It was for SAA; we didnt ship it - the engine was leaking oil all over the place, about 25L worth all over the ramp. So we said no thank you. I think MK took it down in the end, 2-3 days later.
