The following NOTAM was issued today in the UK.
AIS Advisory Notice 35/99
Subject: Angola
The civil war in Angola has resumed. Both sides possess surface to air missiles and neither side has a reliable aircraft identification capability. The government air force has warned that airspace violations will not be tolerated and that unauthorised flights will be intercepted. There is therefore an increased risk of hostile military action against misidentified civilian aircraft overflying Angola.
Airlines should be aware that aircraft taking off and landing in areas which have not been approved by the Angolan Government will be subject to restrictions in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1127 (1997). Operators should also note that flight plans approved by the Angolan Government do not guarantee aircraft safety. AIS Advisory notice 002/99 is cancelled.
