Just found out on their website:

Ocean Airlines announces the purchase of 6 additional B747-200F to be added to the current fleet (2 B747-200F). The new aircraft will be inducted and commence operations between July 2007 and April 2008 increasing Ocean Airlines fleet to 8 full freighter configuration 747 (5 nose loaders and 3 side loaders) aircraft.
The progressive increase of capacity will allow the Company to inaugurate as from September, 5 new routes: Abu Dhabi, Luanda, Nagoya, Nairobi and Washington.
The existing destinations of Ocean’s actual network, Almaty, Bishkek, Hong Kong, Lahore and Shanghai, will be strengthened with additional weekly frequencies. To service the new emerging markets in Africa, Middle East and America, Ocean Airlines will consolidate it’s position as a global all cargo carrier with 11 scheduled destinations in 4 continents.

BelArgUSA
6th Jul 2007, 16:45
Contract captains are at US$ 8,000/mo - for 60 hrs or 20 days, extra for overtime or extra days.
F/Os and F/Es are at 2/3 of above = US$ 5,335/mo.
They are hiring, but age 60 is still limit for pilots...

To contact them I suggest to write directly their Flight Ops Manager Captain Angelo Boscolo. Email address should be [email protected] but just contact them by phone before because I am not 100% sure about this email address.

That salary mentioned above....

I haven't flown for a couple of years, other than OFTs, is that considered a 'normal', or even a 'good' B747 Classic salary level these days?

It just seems a bit low to me, I was getting more than that some 3 years ago, flying the same type/model/job, and one of the reasons I left was the salary level wasn't up to the 'hassle-level'!

Comments....

Air Atlanta Iceland pays the same salaries...
Yet with Air Atlanta, you are NOT paid when taking time off...
I expect many Air Atlanta crews leaving for Ocean.

These salaries are low, I agree...
xxx
Funny is, they will say "we try to reduce our costs, so to compete in the cargo industry".
Fine, until you find out that they sell the tonne/kilometer at the same rate as anybody else.
Ocean sells at same rate as Air France, Lufthansa, Cargolux, Polar or Atlas
So - Who gets that money...? Shall we say it: management...

Our Contract as Comandante forsees the following amounts…net net after taxes and social contributions:

Minimum 50 hours € 3500 X 14 months

Flying 80 hours 5800 €

Flying 100 hours € 7300

To the above amounts you are to add per diems of 60 Eur per day roughly another 600 to 900 + +€

30 days vacation per year - 10 days of rest

@TRITAR500

Out of the 14 months salary, the 12 you really work are paid upon the hours, but the 2 extra months paid on June and December are paid on the Minimum 50 hours € 3500, right??

Pension shame, extra personal insurance and loss of licence are paid by the company?

Be interesting to see what the gross salary at Ocean is for a captain? At another Italian company this has been quoted (for middle range seniority) at €6000/60hrs gross and for 80hrs €7300 gross.
The questions to ask, is if the flying hours per month exceeds the 50 hour minimum?
How many standbys are done per month and is there a payment for them?
May be tri500 could provide the answers

any updates on the new routes and whether recruitment is continuing and at the same salary rates?

FlyLowCost
2nd Aug 2007, 14:37
From what I understand from Italian friends, they are quite desperate to recruit as much F/O as possible and they are very flexible on contract conditions and salary. However only EU nationality are taken.

quite desperate to recruit sounds like a recipe for disaster  but who knows until the result of the inquiry :\

Had quite a few friends applying for them.
I would say apply if you are unemployed.
Be careful to leave something else as the company is, at least at the moment, in a really difficut financial position.
Really low on cash and trying to be on the Italian stock exchange to get some fresh capitals from the market.
Probably things will start to improve if they are able to survive the next 6 months or so...
Hope to be of help

Presume all crews are based in Brescia? Nice small little airport to be based in. Must score as a big plus point since with most jobs flying heavy metal, you end up being based out of a large airport with all the stress that is normally associated with large airports!

Lightson:

The Salary you posted is not what Ocean are advertising: It was something like Capt=9000 Euro
F/O= 7000 Euro

I guess you are both very wrong, the italian pay system is like this:
You get a basic salary plus lets say 50 or 60h fixed paid.
Then from 60-70, 70-80 etc you get like 25%, 50%, 100% more per hour.
So if you fly mimimum, you get minimum, if you fly a lot you get very much.
Difference for a CPT could be like 5000net up to 8000net with 80h, just an example. But there is no fixed salary in most italian airlines.

Capt=9000 euro for 80 hours
FO=7000 euro for 80 hours
FACT.:ugh:

Is that Italian enough?:E

EAM

Your post was just missleading, 9000€ with 80h Ok, how much with only 60h or less?
You just picked one mosaik, but you have to tell the full story...come on, seems you are a clever guy. :}

Sorry EAM, didn't mean to come across as being clever:8 just stating the facts as they were presented to me.

These can be assumed as being the minimal contract terms.

OK, I see. Well as I mentioned, usually there is a min guaranteed of 50 or 60h, min 80h is very unlikly, but of course they give you the figure of 80h.
Unless you get a contract with a broker and a fixed salary, you should check the exact pay scale, I think you will end up with less than 80h per month.

Engineer

These can be assumed as being the minimal contract terms.

Assuming these people have a tempo inditerminato contract then as EAM states with minimal flying the big salary is out of reach. But if you are lucky to fly 80+ hours then the big salary is available.

Hi YT

You are right about 9,000/7,000 euros - have you got the job offer/contract?

EAM
2nd Sep 2007, 10:53
If you are stated to get a salary (9000€/7000€) for flying the 80 hours, means that you get paid until the 80 hours.
If you fly more, you should get paid more, like +25/50% more the hour...

Nun lieber Kollege,
IF the minimum is 80h your are right, but I dont think so, Ocean would be the first and only company in Italy with a 80h minimum. I guess, they tell you "With 80h you get 9000€" and not "The minimum pay is 80h, which is 9000€" with this Ocean would not have any problems to find pilots and pilots would not have left Ocean. Proof me wrong, I would be happy.
The minimum for a CPT I heard is about 6000€.
Talking about a standart Ocean contract and not one via a broker like Parc or someone elese, I guess you will get standart healthinsurancein Italy which is good, around 50€ per diem and it seems they have agreement with AirOne and Meridiana. Italian taxes are around 22%, but I guess this is net.

As far as I know Ocean contracts are offered through the broker Avcom, whoever they are. Salary is gross, no tax deductions and no other extras. They guarantee 10 days off per month but they are not clear whether this is consecutive or not. Anybody knows more???

Thanks for the update, and the advise regarding '
Pay attention to the wordings of the contract'. I did, and it still bares no resemblance to the information your advertising!

Guess you won't be joining them then?
