Well, it's good to see the memebers of the Nigerian House of Representatives are totally in touch with the aviation sector. Whilst we all know that the Port Harcourt international airport has now been closed for nearly a year, it's interesting to note that one eminent member of the House of Representatives, who has proposed a committee be set up to determine the cause of the delay in the repair work to the airport, has noticed that all flights to the airport have been cancelled - wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that the airport's closed? :ugh::ugh:

Hon. Igo Agummah one of the proponent of the motion had in his contribution said that there appear to be remote reasons behind the delay saying that all international flights to the airport normally run by Lufthansa (German) and Air France (French) have been cancelled.

The Honourable George Ford Nwosu (PDP) Rivers State, who proposed the motion alleged that alleged that the airliners which has been allowed to fly into the Port Harcourt Air base, including Arik air, Virgin Nigeria and Aero Contractor may be behind the allged delay in the execution of the project to enable them recover cost of building terminals at the airbase. .... dontcha just love the spelling :}

I wonder if it could have slipped his notice that Aero has had a terminal there already for some years, Virgin actually use the less than adequate Caverton shed and the only outfit which has actually spent a lot of money on (as yet) unfinished facility to its "Garden City Express' facility is Arik Air, allegedly funded in part by former state governor P Odili and former president Obasanjo.

None of it has anything to do with lack of security, unpaid bills, incompetence or the investment by Arik I suppose............. hmmmmmm :* ....... Richard Cranium strikes again :E

The Federal Government may invite the private sector to expand the Murtala Mohammed Airport, as a way of easing congestion in the international wing of the airport.
The airport is overcrowded daily during boarding and boarding process due to limited space and over the years there have been clamour that the airport should be expanded
Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren stated this in an interview yesterday, saying that the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) are working to ensure that this is done soon. “We know our challenges, that our arrival and departure hall is too small and can no longer cope with the market we have and the volume of traffic in the airport.” Demuren that this is cumbersome for service providers and for the passengers, noting that ideally passengers are not meant to stand for two to three hours to collect their luggage. “Aviation is meant to be of speedy delivery where passengers are not supposed to stand for two to three hours to collect their baggage and pass through immigration. We have made several proposals to government in order to ensure that these areas are improved`.
He said that the biggest and modern aircraft, Airbus A380 which carries up to 600 passengers already are already being used in the European countries and United States, remarking that if the airplane is brought to Nigeria, it would pose a major challenge to the authorities.
“Presently if 600 people are brought to our airport at once, the arrival and departure hall will not contain them. MMIA is overdue for expansion because right now there is congestion problem and queues are gathering,” he stated
Demuren noted that in developed countries where there are modern terminal buildings, they usually have large number of passengers but this is not felt because of the expansive facilities and large car parks.
“This makes the processing of passengers quicker, and we need to do this too,” he added."
