I heard 747 second officers get paid more than 737 first officers. Is this true and if so what's the difference?

It depends on how long you've been a S/O for as to what the difference is.
When I went from S/O B744 to F/O B767 (ten years ago now) I went across on about $15K less than my colleagues who remained on the 744 were getting. Over the next two years this increased to being about $30K less (them getting more senior on the 744 and picking up more o/t trips, me not picking up any seniority on the 767 as an F/O).
My info is old and a bit 'ball park' but I'd suggest the variation between the back seat of the 744 and the front seat of the 737 being somewhere between $10 and 35K depending on the seniority on the 744.

Riddle me this - why else do you think the company is always so keen for there to be an oversupply of 737 F/O's fresh off the 744?
A 737 F/O doing 60 hours a month would be on a significant amount less than a 744 S/O of similar seniority doing mainly LA trips...

depends how much work there is on the maggot. a few years ago there wasn't much at all, guys were on about 125-135. then they almost got the hours right for about 3 months, now they've underdone it and most guys I know are bumping their rolling 100stick in 30 limit :rolleyes:. So that with the new eba I think guys are on about 150ish. (including dta, not the eba "sign on bonus") Guys that stayed on the 400 were gettin 175. The 737 lifestyle is the bees knees - despite that, just about everyone is leaving! :} $$$$$

Sometimes in life you need to go backwards to go forwards. If person A is a 737 FO and earns less than person B who is a SO that will only be the situation for say 5 years. If person B stays a SO for that time and doesn't upgrade, and person A gets an upgrade to Capt, then who will come out in front in the end.
Now this thought may be simplistic, but I thought that if you became a pilot you liked to fly. A big part of that is take off and landing, and I would have thought that at some stage people would have dreamed or wanted to be a capt one day.

May not be 5 years, but you get the point of my scenario. I do know of one guy who got a B737 command fairly quickly for QF, but he took the crap and moved around so he could reach his goal.

737 on shorthaul award is ****e.
Guys averaging 140-150 000 now after last EBA. some is from hourly rate increase, some from higher divisor.
SO on 744 getting $160 - ish depending on overtime. Difference is on 744 you have lotsa days off, you do very little and you get to have decent days off in port.
737 you work your ring off. No work = no pay.

...and years in the company. Many of those guys now taking 767 F/O slots. Rammel's example ain't bad. I know of a S/O who joined the same day as me and is still a S/O. He may earn a motza for doing not much but his take home hasn't been as good as mine for the last few years. He'll go further behind over the next few years too. Each to their own!
