There's a rumour going around that the Angolan authorities have stopped BA flying to Luanda this weekend, perhaps due to the recent EC 'banning' of TAAG. Anyone shed any light on this ?
Thanks, pp

All EU airlines stopped for that exact reason. :ugh:

Tit-for-tat reaction of Angolan "authorities"? Or a voluntary self-imposed ban due to dreadful safety aspects of the country?

If true, they are only hurting themselves. How many airport workers, taxi drivers, hotels will be put out of work?
An underdeveloped country shouldn't cut itself off from the outside world.

An "under-developed" country should also not allow itself to be held hostage and blackmailed just because they bought Boeings and not Airbus - or so that some can monopolise and capture markets and the industry.

You clearly dont know the Angolans - theyve suffered for so long another few months or years wont make a difference!

Since when have politicians worried about the livelihoods of the workers? Even in the developed world (?) of the EU they tell their workers that their earning power is limited by the working hours directive whether they like it or not.

In the case of Angola, the only access to/from Europe for the vital foreign oil workers is now via Johannesburg. Nose is definately being cut off to spite face.

Not quite Skylion, you see the vital oil workers dont produce the oil for the local Angolan market.

Have a feeling this dispute will be resolved pretty quickly. In this case at least the sword cuts both ways. Watch European expedience and hypocracy at its best in the process! :ok:

PIA had their 747s banned from the EU for being unsafe. Perhaps the Pakistanis should have bought Airbus instead? But hang on, they had their A300s banned as well. Maybe they are just banned because they are actually unsafe.

Peterperfect, he has two choices from JNB: TAAG or SAA.

Well, tonight's TAP flight from Lisbon and tomorrow's AF from CDG are both showing OK on the respective websites.

There are three flights a week each by SAA and TAAG to/from JNB, which appear to be limited in frequency by the bilateral agreement - SAA usually operate a 747 over the fairly short distance. The flights often have to be booked weeks in advance, even in business class. Visas are not straightforward and hotels are very expensive.

I have never actually made it to Angola, though not for want of trying.
TAAG's European and SA flights are operated by brand new 777s.

Millions of people flying between China and Taiwan springboard off Hong Kong to reach their destinations—this is simply a political restriction. They do it with ease and added journey time. I see no reason business people traveling to Angola cannot do the same. Think of it as a boost to local air traffic, and let's keep those trashy African airlines out of Europen skies.

Dont fret, the major oil and money interests will quickly sort out this small misunderstanding!:ok:
