ENERGY CIRCLE
The energy circle is a green arc, centered on the aircraft's position and oriented towards the current track line. It is displayed on the NDs during descent, when HDG or TRK mode is selected. It represents the required distance to land from the aircraft's position down to airport elevation at VAPP speed, considering all speed constraints on the vertical profile.

.... from FCOM....

Guys....every time I see this energy circle...on a descent phase,
I kind of wonder....
When do I use this thing???
and HOW ???

Any seggestions ..... ^^

I never "use" it either, but maybe on a visual approach? Descend planning?

Or maybe just a reminder to tired loco pilots on sector nr 6 that "If you continue like this, thats were you will hit ground. If it does not match up with the airport - Do something about it!" ;)

All engine out glide approach?

I accept it takes speed constraints into account, but does it assume the current config?

it assumes standard decelleration and configuration segments down to Vapp
