Bournemouth Airport Expansion Plans

Bournemouth Airport has been granted permission redevelop at a planned cost of £32m. Work is to start within weeks and is being done to meet the expected rise in passenger numbers from one million to three million within 10 years.

What effect do people think this could have on the training outfits currently based at Bournemouth? Will they get squeezed out with all the new traffic movement? Or will it just enhance the learning experience?

Its a good thing for a training environment, I am flying out of Liverpool at the moment, where I did my PPL several years ago, since then it has grown in traffic movements with the expansion of lo cost and various new ops starting up.
You have to sharpen up your RT, situational awareness, and its also a good motivational thing having a 73 in front an a 75 behind you at the hold.

I think in EGHH case, ATC will also have to sharpen up if the first quote is valid. Otherwise, bring a good book to read while you're at the hold and make sure that your passengers can tolerate going round and round at circuit height without feeling sick.

Still, it might be good for Compton Abbas and Old Sarum.

I can see your point re ATC!! I have flown from B/mouth (hour building & night rating), there is definately a difference there, a 737 over nothern France talking to approach puts you on a downwind orbit!!
Where at LPL I could be on 1 mile final, with a jet at 10 miles, and ATC still manage to get a jet off between us 2 on finals..
Not knocking ATC at B/mouth, have visited the tower there and at LPL, both were more than accomodating, and a very worthwhile visit to both.
Liverpool appear to have more staff on duty and being a new control tower had an impressive modern set up.
Im sure this will all come at B/mouth as the airport gets busier.
All positive stuff for us pilots though, more pax=more planes=more jobs.. tree huggers might not agree!!:rolleyes:

Hmm have to agree with all that has been said. No one has yet mentioned the one man band fueling system! One man and his shell truck on an international airport, bless him!!

Sort it out management!!

In my eyes its a classic exmaple of the fat cats at the top wanting more cash for doing as little as possible! Ie trying to cram in as many flights as possible with poor facilities and seeing if they can get away with it!
Somthing will give if basic needs are not met.
spending money on operational resources such as fuel tankers and employees and a suitable air traffic control unit would be a good place to start! The guys in the tower do a cracking job considering the resources they have, One radar guy with one screen! Even he has said its a joke.

As far as the GA situation goes well it will be just like southampton. No one will have the balls to get up and say ' ok lads/lasses its time you left for pastures new, we need the space' they will just keep pumping up prices, landing fees, handling fess etc up up and up!:mad::mad::mad:
