Airliners.net is reporting with photos a Gemini MD-11 on its
tail at DXB. Seems to be another case of no tail stand and
not tying down the nose gear.
Any reports of damage to the aircraft??

what we used to do in AMS is a rope over the nose gear attachted to a push back tug....or some airports hv hooks in the ramp to attach the rope at:cool:

They do it all the time at all KAL facilities. We fly ACMI for them and use nose gear straps during loading and unloading with 747s.

. . Just for the record - there is NO tailstand for either the DC10 or the MD11. The approved tie down is a ship's chain covered in leather wrapped around the nose strut and then secured to the tug !

Its commonly known as a 'nose teather'....or at least thats what we call it.

Pretty standard stuff really. Personally I prefer it to a tail stand, as it is much less messing around

If you ask the CV boys, they don't like tailstands...just get the loading sequence right & you never need them!;) I guess, if you're a tad lazy & think the tailstand will take the weight if you screw up, then all that aft pressure is concentrated in one area in the tail. I believe there have been cases of the tail struct puncturing up through the tail...not down my way of course!:E
