Chairman not happy with company so:

Major reshuffle of the ninth floor to get a new direction. Chairman also not happy at the numbers that are leaving (15 interviewed at Oasis last week). Another 30-40 pilots to resign within the next few months.

:D

From what I hear its long over due.

Why are they letting 4 747 go , when every other asian carrier needs capacity......somethings not right.
Big changes are needed and drastic ones to, may be the chairman has seen the light!:ugh:

what about the 7474 sim ???

Flying Mechanic

4 747 going to UPS. As for the sim, they will need it for the remaing fleet of 14 747's. Long term the pax/combi 400's will be made into freighters.

747's to UPS - seems strange.
Will they go as converted Freighters??

1 747 PAX has just been converted and remains as EVA Air Cargo
2 747 Combi's are being converted now.

Which ones are heading to UPS?

Thanking you.

^ 747s heading to UPS, what's strange about that? And if you really need to know which ones are heading there,,,hmmmmmmmm, let me think, I beat you it's the freighters.

The strange thing is!
EVA can fill its freighters from Asia-USA and Asia-Europe! Why sell the Freighters 747F’s to UPS??
EVA (Evergreen Group) owns 49% of Shanghai Airlines so it makes sense giving Shanghai Airlines the EVA MD11F’s that are operating in Europe and Asia then replace there own fleet with the 747 converted Freighters!
Why reduce your own capacity? They already gave back the World Airways MD11F's
As a company EVA Air Cargo must contribute 45% of the EVA revenue with around 55% from passenger. That’s a big focus on cargo why loose that? Not many airlines have cargo divisions that contribute that much!

I think Eva is not reducing their capacity..MD11 carries 90 tons, 747F carries 120 tons..(4XMD11 loads=3X747 loads) one less airplane is really a good way to save cost, considering EVA is so conservative with route structure...no new routes, the just the old profitable routes.

Eva has to replace their md11..currently 13 md11s to include world airways...
Eva has many 747s(18) If they converted all of these to freighters that will be so much...taiwan's cargo is slowly decreasing because of China--the factory of the world...
B747 routes are slowly being covered by the 777s.
I guess this explains the 747 freighters sold to ups..

just a wild guess using arithmethic and assumptions

I guess it depends on the elections in March reference the Mainland links.

90% of computer hardware in the Mainland is manufactured by factories that our owned by Taiwanese businessmen. So one would possibly guess that cargo could be routed back through TPE to CAL / EVA to boost the loads that our dropping ex Taiwan. Look after your own etc.

Why re route it via Tai Pei? Eva has the advantage over Dynasty in that it has Shanghai cargo in place. They should rapidly expand Shanghai cargo, may be even send send some 747's up there. Compete for the freight the likes of CX/Dragon lift out of Shanghai(which then goes via HK) to europe/USA.

I’m not sure about this one, but isn’t there a restricted number of flights that can operate from Mainland China to the US?

It’s only a guess but Shanghai Airlines could route the cargo to TPE where EVA/CAL already has the routes secured – makes sense on that side.

But I agree China to Europe the traffic could be routed onto Shanghai Airlines – and routes etc shouldn’t an issue. I think the Shanghai Airlines MD11F operating PVG/FRA is doing well?

Seven 747 going to Shanghai now, as well as the MD's. They have now decided to really expand Shanghai. Another 9 pilots interviewed at Korean last week......so the over crewed fleet, will soon be the under crewed fleet!Korean also advertising in Oz for non type rated with basings in Oz.....finally its in the pilots favour.......

Are 4x747 still going to UPS as well as the 7x747 to Shanghai Airlines?

Agent Mulder
22nd Jun 2007, 11:56
Yes, 4 will go UPS and 7 to Shanghai. They plan to keep 3 in Pax role for certain routes.

Cargo revenue has been down 15% in the past few months, so less capacity is needed. Taiwan is suffering from factories relocating to main land china.

Chairman is concerned at loss of expats........pay rise at EVA? Even the locals are planning on leaving, they can only take so much vaseline.:D
