Does anyone know if there are any BA aircraft or pilots based in Dublin? If so how does it work? Do you commute to Heathrow everyday or do you fly out of Dublin as your base?

Dublin isn't a BA base. Your only choice is to commute to Heathrow as and when required.

Is there any pilots out there doing this? i.e. Living in Dublin and commuting to Heathrow everyday? How does it affect family life?

Assuming you're joining on the Airbus fleet it would be difficult but not impossible for the first 6 months with no staff travel. Also, rostering is governed byour agreement, Bid Line Rules, which essentially rewards seniority. For your first few months you'd be on "blind lines" where the company essentially allocates work. Once you've gained some seniortiy you would be in a position to bid for "trip lines" where you have much more control of your days off, destinations etc. There are many BA pilots commuting from all over the world but, at the moment, they are all senior to you!

You wouldn't commute to LHR everyday - that would be impossible anyway given that many of your starts will be early ie 0550 onwards reports. The company blocks sectors together to form trips which ma be simple there and backs or 2, 3, 4 or 5 day tours. So you pitch up for work on day one and then go home a few days later.

All of this really applies to LHR shorthau although there is an obvious red-across to other fleets.

Hope it helps.
