I arrived VOBG as SLF on EK518 on 11 May. Scheduled departure from DXB was 2100, but we were ready for pushback at 2045. However, we were informed that due to "congestion" at Bangalore, we would not be able to depart early. So we sat for nearly 30 minutes, wasting what could have been an early arrival and welcome dash to the hotel. Upon arrival at Bangalore at 0300 (as scheduled), the entire airport was devoid of any a/c traffic - only one IA A320 parked outside terminal. Next arrival was BA at 0430. Is there a different meaning of the word "congestion" in Indian usage?

The Indian authorities have put out a notice to operators that they have to operate to schedule +/- a bit. So if you have a quicker flight time than the scheduled block, you have to delay departure ex DXB or wherever. The parking is limited to 1x gate for 777's and maybe a remote for 330's. The daytime departure doesn't suffer this problem. The problems occurs when aircraft overnight park.
