The main runway at Congonhas was closed today for the start of the resurfacing work intended to improve wet weather performance. Work is scheduled to last 45 days.

Up to 100 flights per day are now being diverted to Viracopos and Guarulhos as the secondary runway has lower weight limits and is 500m shorter.

Expect long delays and difficult transfers :ugh:

Who preformed this job? Opened for 11 days and 2 planes skidded off the runway, not good at all...

Since it was reopened, there was no rain. First rain was on Sunday 15 of June. Monday and tuestay with heavy rainfall sometimes.

Who perfomed the job? Some very overpaid contractor(s)...:ugh:

Let's keep this in proportion... from my understanding, what is happening now is not 're-surfacing' but grooving of the recently resurfaced runway... this had always been the plan... the grooves are required to assist drainage in heavy rain but could not be applied before now as the new surface had to dry out after its application...
