Hi all,

Could any of our future colleagues from QF short haul bases (SYD, MEL, PER) give us people from AO some ideas of what type of flying you do out of your base currently, please?

Also, for Asian destinations, what's the go with language speakers? Are they allocated before hand? Or do speakers just bid the trips? Thanks heaps for your help.

NRT, HKG, PVG, PEK, BOM, CGK, SIN, DPS, AKL, ZQN, PER, SYD, BNE, CNS, TVS, MEL, DRW, HBA, CBR overnights plus day trip. Single day duties, 2 day hkg , 6 day bom or a 3.20hr CBR/KGl return. Language speakers are pre-allocated and if permanent, allocations will probably ask you to drop your badge like they have done recently.

Thanks for your reply, I'm interested as well (AO crew). Could anyone be more specific about which of the three short hall bases above go to which destinations?

Sydney and Perth do a large portion of regional flying, but all bases have their share. Thank to carmen. But it is no fun, imagine Syd-BNE-HKG 12hrs rest HKG-SYD, 15 hours rest at home. Some stage days in PKG PEK CGK. DO you not have access to qfcrew website? Maybe someone from FAAA can bring up some bid packages for you all to look through. Just remember every month is different. Some regionals are quite senior 14+ and some are junior casual C 12months.

I would like to ask the short haul crew how fast/often the base transfer list moves? As AO only have limited transfers to SYD/MEL the crew left have to put their names on the transfers wait list, how often does it move to get to SYD/MEL? months/years? ...thanks

It's hard to say. Those in Perth have been waiting for a long time.... over 3 years for some of them.

The VR program is really the only saviour for those people, so unless there is a significant change it will all hinge on VR and how many people are eventually interested in transferring to Cairns (if the opportunity arose).

As for your flying, obviously you will be doing Narita trips, everything else will be upto CARMEN.
