Browsing my father's log book from after WW2, I was amazed at one page from August 1949, in a Lancastrian:
Aug 18 Sydney-Darwin 1 hr day, 8.3 night
Aug 19 Darwin - Singapore 7.7 day, 1.5 night and then Singapore - Calcutta 5.0 day, 3.7 night (that makes 17.9 hrs for one day)
Aug 20 Calcutta - Karachi 6.7 night
Aug 21 Karachi - Calcutta 6.3 night and then Calcutta - Singapore 8.7 day (15 hrs for this day)
Aug 22 Singapore - Darwin 2.0 day, 6.9 night
Aug 22 Darwin - Sydney 2.0 day 7.0 night
(17.9 for this day)
That makes nearly 68 hours in 5 days. No rest days.
Subsequent trips allowed 3 days in Calcutta before returning, but that first one was a doozy.
In 1952 in a Super Connie, he was flying Sydney - London via Darwin, "PNOB" (don't know this one) - Singapore - Calcutta - Karachi - Cairo - Rome - "LAP" - London Air Port? This trip took 51 hrs (32 day, 19 night) in 10 days with 5 days off in Karachi.
Each month averaged one Syd - London return trip, for 100 hrs over 15 days.
What do long-haulers do these days?
