I did a search and found some of the info I am looking for but some questions stay unanswered:

According to a CX HR lady I met in Miami I am competitive for a SO position

1) I live in the usa but have a european passport. Can I reasonnably bet on getting a European base after 3-4 years in HK?

2) If I dont like CX before becoming an FO, will my time as a SO help me getting a similar job (equipment wise) or is it worthless?

Yes. There is currently a number of slots on the European bases.
I think having been through the Cathay system looks good on your CV and would look good to prospective employers as long as you are able to meet their handling requirements.
That said, save your self the heartache and just don't come unless you are sure.
Life too short!

Thanks for the answer
lets push the scenario further.
If I go to Cathay with the following in mind:
Get based in Paris or London, after 3-4 years.
Is that realistic?
What does base assignement depend on what?
also what kind of flight time do u log in your logbook as a SO? does it go to the SIC collumn?

Saviboy-

Flightinfo has a "foreign" section now that allows discussion for CX among others. Try that site for your questions as this one seems to have too many arrogant bloviators.

Good luck!
