Let's try & keep to the subject this time.

I've borrowed this from the November edition of European Business Air News.

Gold Air moves towards an all Lear 45 fleet

Gold Air will receive the last of its four ordered Lear 45s by the end of the year. Sales and marketing manager, John Brutnall, said: "We've now got three of the four we ordered earlier in the year and the last will be here before Christmas." Unlike a number of other charterers, Gold Air claims to be thriving in the current market. Brutnall added: "Demand for the Lears has been unprecedented, we are the busiest we've ever been. Gold Air forecasted 70 hours a month on each aircraft and we're actually flying 145 hours on each."

Brutnall explained that the popularity was probably due to a number of reasons: "We have priced these aircraft well, so they're not actually an expensive aircraft to charter. It's brand new, fast and the interior is excellent, but the price we are charging is similar to something 20 years older. This is possible because the operating efficiency is tremendous." The company has found that the Lear 45 appeals to a broad spread of customers, a number of which are leisure travellers flying for long weekends to destinations including Parma and Nice. The aircraft has a range of 2,200 nm, which allows it to fly direct from London to the Canary Islands. Its configuration includes two club fours.

Gold Air is chartering the Lear for around £1,*** per hour. "Old Citations charter for between £1,*** and £1,*** and you're flying 140 mph faster in the Learjet. This cuts the flight time by a third, making the journey more economical." The jets have replaced the Hawker 700s that the company owned and mark a move towards an all Learjet fleet. The company's client base is particularly strong in Ireland, UK and Monaco although Gold Air has customers internationally.

I had the chance to climb all over a '45 last week and was suitably impressed. The crew were very happy with their ship, the only report being that it was advisable that a good spares holding was available as the aircraft's BITE was popping up snags well before they became evident to the crews themselves.

Just a quick update to that - Gold Air will exchange its Hawker 800 fleet for something larger by 2004. In the meantime watch this space.

The all Lear Jet fleet will be added to in due course.
