To all the biz jet drivers out there:. .I havenīt heard anything about Netjets Europe in this forum for quite a while so Iīm wondering whatīs going on there. According to a press release Iīve read they have ordered fifty more citations for the european operation allone.. .Does anybody know what the hiring status is? I have been told, that deliveries of new aircraft had been delayed by cessna. Is that true or are they having diviculties in the european market? Maybe a Netjets driver could comment! Looking forward to lotīs of replies

First (of 25) Excel arrived last month. First (of 25) Bravo due the end of Feb.

New hires in training. Probably not interviewing again until mid 2002.

This is, of course, aviation and everything may have changed by the time I click on the 'Add Reply' icon.

Flintstone,. .thanks for the quick reply. I think I remember your name from past NetJets postings. I assume you work for them. I am currently employed by a scheduled german carrier and Iīm considering to apply for an F/O position with Netjets. I hear itīs a great company to work for, but have never been able to talk to anybody who actually flies for them. So any and all information concerning Netjets (selection process, career progression, salary, typical roster, typical flying day...) would be much appreciated. Would you advice against a move from an airline to Netjets? Among other things itīs the wide variety of "bases" and the type of flying that sounds very good to me. Any ideas and comments from anybody reading this...?

733Driver,

I personally think Netjets Europe would be a great opportunity. You could fly NEW and advanced corporate jets to a wide variety of destinations and yet still adhere to a schedule. I am not sure about the pay, but I do know the company is very stable (at least the US parent corporation is).

What type of 737 do you fly now (still a 300 series or a NG)? Are you a Captain or FO? Do you have any past corporate experience - if so, flying what types?

Best of luck in the process.

. .Cheers

LAVDUMPER,

I think you are right. Itīs a unique type of flying they have to offer. I hope NetJets Europe turns out to be just as stable and succesfull as NetJets USA. . .I currently fly the 300 series as a First Officer. I donīt have any corporate experience. The only other airplane I have flown comercially besides the Boeing was a Shorts 360 for a german FedEx Feeder. So thanks for sharing your views on NetJets! Iīm sure I will apply!

Hey Flintstone!

I'm assuming that u work for them if not would u be kind enough to shed some light on what the requirements are for an application to Netjets Europe? I'm in the land of Oz but was born in Europe and would dearly love to get back and fly there. I've tried on previous occassion but my Euro passport is not part of the Euro community yet so its prety difficult to get the right to abode and work in other areas other than the country of birth unless u get the job first.. .A reply would be much appreciated or a quick e-mail.. .thanks in advance for any info!!!!

737driver,

just out of curiosity why do you want to leave your airline job for a bizjet job? Most people I know try to move on to an airline. Although, there is always the odd one switching from an airline job to a bizjet job. I know one ex 737 captain flying a bizjet. But, imho there are only a handful of very attractive bizjet jobs in Europe which a worth going after.

wondering,. .I agree there are only very few attractive bizjet jobs out there. From what I have heard so far, NetJets must be one of them! I would love to be able to choose to live anywhere in europe without having to look for a new job. NetJets offers that. I would like to fly to more than a handfull destinations. I would still like to have a stable roster and work for a company that operates modern, well maintained aircraft. I would like to be part of a financially stable oganization. I expect top notch initial and recurrent training. NetJets has all that, I believe. Donīt get me wrong, though: I like the company I work for, itīs a very professionall and safe operation, training is really good...But: The companies future is uncertain (financially) and I donīt think I want to live in Germany for the rest of my live. Also, the great vatiety of destinations at NetJets as opposed to our very limited area of operation sounds very good to me! Maybe that gives you an idea. I can see your point though as I have also known people that were once employed by an airline and now fly for some less desirable outfit. Itīs obvious that most of those people didnīt choose to leave the airlines. But then again, I donīt think NetJets is your typical bizjet operation. Do you still think I am nuts?

P.S read an interesting article on NetJets in FLYING magazine (USA) a few month ago. It said several pilots had left their jobs at NetJets for a job at a major airline just to come back to NetJets after a while because they missed the unique type of flying NetJets has to offer.

To 733 Driver

I did what you are thinking of doing and it was a major eye-opener(not Netjets but very similar),not in a good way!!

Suffice to say I am back at my old airline!Feel free to email me if you want a reality check, I wish someone had given me one.

I like the direction this discussion is going. Itīs interesting to hear from different points of view e.g. bizjet vs airline.

733driver,

I assume that you fly for Deutsche BA. At least, thatīs the only 733 operator in Germany I can think of. Have you tried DaimlerChrysler Aviation in Stuttgart? Lear 60s, Challengers, a GLEX and an ACJ. Even if you donīt want to live in Germany for ever that should give you some great flying opportunities.

Flanker,

do you mind sharing some of your bizjet vs airline experience here in public? No need to give names. Just some insight would be great.

My own experience of corporate operations is not very extensive as I soon resigned once I realised it would not change.

With apologies to the professional operations out there,I will only say that I was not prepared to accept what I believed to be unacceptable(if any)operating procedures and a disregard for the things I consider important.

My previous experience was not blinkered,it includes bush flying in Africa, turboprop single crew night freight and twelve years flying Boeings for a number of airlines including nearly five with Britannia, the pick of the bunch IMHO.

Maybe I expect too much but I just remember feeling very relieved at being back in the fold after rejoining my previous company when I heard the FO calling 'positive rate' as expected, not having to guess what may or may not be coming next!

OK I accept that there are different ways of doing things but this was a two crew AOC jet operator with lots of crews.

Aeroplanes demand a certain respect,if that is not there you are walking a tightrope.I have nothing but contempt for the people 'managing' that operation.

Note it was NOT Netjets,I know very little about them.

Flanker,

thanks for sharing your experience. I can totally relate to you, as anything but a professional operation would be inaccaptable to me, aswell. I donīt know what operator you worked for (canīt think of too many similar operations) but I will send you an email so maybe we can exchange some more information. Itīs a shame there are so many unprofessional operators out there.. .I think with a company the size of NetJets and all the money they are investing in initial and recurrent training at flight safety there would have to be SOPīs that they strictly adhere to...!?

wondering,

yes you are right: thatīs where I fly. I have not considered applying for Daimler Chrysler Aviation for several reasons: I have heard itīs not the best company to work for, I donīt want to move again, just now. They use the DLR for pilot selection. If I had passed all their tests Iīd be flying for Lufthansa . .DCA had several ads for flightcrews in a german aviation mag over the last couple of years. If it was that great a company they wouldnīt have to advertise their jobs that often, I think. But the bottom line is: They donīt offer the roster and base-flexibility that NetJets has. Infact nobody else does. Thatīs why Iīm not going to apply anywhere else I think! At the end of the day: out of all the flying jobs in Germany mine has to be one of the better ones: descent pay, stable roster, no hotels, home every night, 11 days off guaranteed, plus approx 5 days standbys (usually not called), usually 4 sector days, sometimes only 2.. .But, as said before: Itīs just a little boring at times and I might not want to live in Germany forever. Oh, before people jump at me: I know I wonīt be home every night flying for NetJets and I would spend quite some time in hotels around Europe. But thatīs fine with me. I was just trying to say that I know that lotīs of people would like to have the "boring" life im currently living.

I hear here and there the biz jets aviation is going down now. After a quick good reaction on october the economic reality seems to refresh investors.. .Netjets Midle East is getting difficulties and Netjets Europe seems to slow down quite a bit.. .Any other info about this ?. .bidouf

Can someone tell me about the Netjets crew bases in Europe?

. .Are there specific "gateways" or are there a few set crew bases. How far away can you live from a "gateway" or a crew base?

Flinstone, do most Netjets pilots live in one area vs. another (i.e., London)?

Can you just live anywhere in Europe?

. .Cheers

Flintstone

Live anywhere you like providing it is no more than one hour to your gateway. The gateway must also be a 'major' airport.

I have heard of one or two people living further away than this but moving to other accomodation (with family or friends I suppose) the day before they are rostered on so as to meet the requirement.

Definition of a 'major' airport? Not sure really, I think you have to negotiate that when the time comes but lets face it you only have to drive to or from the airport once every eleven daays with the six on/five off roster so it's no hardship.
