A pilot was injured after his helicopter crashed in Midrand on Saturday, Johannesburg emergency workers said. Spokesperson Malcolm Midgley said the man complained of lower back pain and a slight concussion after the Bell 206 JetRanger helicopter he was piloting crashed just off Allandale road in Midrand. The pilot was taken to the Carstenhof Clinic by paramedics for further treatment. He had taken off from the Grand Central airport shortly before the crash, Midgley said. "He was fortunate... there is serious damage to the helicopter," he said. The pilot told paramedics that he hovered for a while after taking off, then turned around and he did not know how the crash occurred thereafter. He was alone in the helicopter at the time of the crash.
