With many airlines buying aeroplanes, can anyone add what they think they know? What type and how many?

All I know is that Virgin have some 6 or 7 B777's on the way, and Qantas/Jetstar have the new B787 dreamliner coming.

Cheers all

Qantas/Onestar:
20 A380's 2008-2014 replacing 5 B743's and a number of B744's
65 B787's 2008-2014 replacing 29 B767's (more B787's are almost certainly going to be ordered)
8 A332's (additional aircraft)
5 B738's (may be additional or replace a few B734's -currently B737 fleet is 53 aircraft but that is expected to grow significantly)
7 A320's (in addition to JQ's existing 24 A320's)

Virgin Blue:
9 B738's (may be additional but may replace aircraft whose leases are about to expire)
3/16 Embraer 175/195's (additional aircraft)
7 B773 ER (additional aircraft - enough for a twice daily op to West Coast USA)

I went to one of the management briefs the other day and they said that none of the 744's were going.

Maybe the 744's are not going because the A380's & 787's may not all be coming when APA sell the orders to the highest bidder.

GB's got it down packed

Though no plans for any 744 retirement as yet, and 738 order (indeed sitting on 5) will be more like 10 before the year end...

Right, YET is the operative word here. By the time the last of the 380s arrive in 2014 quite a few of the 400s (most?) will be 20+. The 380s are not growth machines (not in A/C #'s anyway). The vast majority are replacements although not YET acknowledged as such.....

Heard Manning was down telling the AustralianAirExpress boys that they would be getting a sh!t load more 737 freighters of the 400 variety and to probably expect international flying in them.
Where would they be going?
Who is going to do the conversions?
I hear the present conversions aren't too flash!
What's happened to the 737 freighter in Cairns?
Heard it might as well be a write off after a moderately firm landing!
Time will tell!:ok:
