Just curious!

The other day I taxied past a Virgin B737 and noticed a 'bulge' about halfway down the fuselage on top. Qantas don't seem to have it.

What is?

It’s the satellite dish for their in-flight entertainment.

I believe that it is to do with their new "Live to Air" Inflight entertainment. Where you can watch Pay TV (like fox sports, skynews etc) when you are flying. It is a receiver of some type to track the sat's for the signal.

I think it picks up a signal from the sat so you can watch the TV on your own tv in the back of the seat in front of you. I think it also has a moving map displayed in one of the channels.

Is there much penalty performance due to it?

No Idea Either

Adds about 800kg to DOW and we allow 100kg penalty to TO and LDG data.

Said one 737 to the other, "Is that an in-flight entertainment system in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"
Boom, boom.
