If there was ever any question about this place going down the tubes here's your confirmation - this is a beaut - brace yourself:

In what appears to have been a job with inside help, thieves stole at least R1.3m in dollars and rands on Tuesday night from two safes at the Waterkloof air force base in Centurion. The nearest guards at the main gate about 100m away said they did not see or hear anything strange, nor did they not let through any suspicious-looking people. A milk lorry which delivered milk at the officers' mess in the morning was also stolen. The air force confirmed on Wednesday that the theft had taken place. The cash was kept in the safes for when President Thabo Mbeki or others had to travel and cash was needed for landing fees or to pay for aircraft fuel overseas. Two suspects were found in the stolen milk lorry, tracked via its satellite navigation system, which led police and military police to the vehicle in Doringkloof. It's not yet clear if there's a connection between the cash theft and that of the lorry. Informed sources told Beeld that the thieves used crowbars to gain access through two security doors at the finance offices, and then cut open the two safes.
