Simple explanation for Swept Wing?

Hey Guys,

I have been reading up on swept wing and other concepts and it seems like depending on what text I am reading the explanation is a little bit different.

For interview purposes, can someone explaing swept wing to me without getting too technical? Just a simple explanation?

Also, how does doing a reduce thrust take off allow for a higher weight take off? I understand how it reduces VMCG but one would think less thrust equals less weight. Tough one to wrap my head around.
