I'm a south african with South African CAA ATPL. I'll be spending an extended period in south American. What license will I require to hire and fly, and what license will I need should I find charter work available?

Thanks in advance.

Good luck trying to find employment. Most Latin American countries have stringent rules allowing only nationals to work in aviation. I'm afraid it is highly unlikely that you will find work.

As far as renting an aircraft, most countries can validate your South African licence as an administrative procedure. I recommend you make sure your licence and foreign medical are valid, because many authorities will validate your licence (Private Pilot Privledges) until you home country medical expires.

Otherwise, the other option is to go for a Private Pilot Licence-- the typical written and flight test apply.
