Got a message from a friend near the base where this incident happened a few days ago.

From what we have heard from the local press.
First trip for the student in the harvard so could have been first trip on a bang seat. Not command ejected as front seat fired not rear. Luckily no one was seriously injured. What i am pleased about is the fact the seat is zero zero unlike the bang seat in the tucano.
I hope the student gets well soon and is back in the seat as soon as possible.

Could be a number of things. Can anyone confirm if its an MB seat?

For those interested:

I remember the video showing a dummy 0/0 ejection from a Tucano. He's very lucky indeed he wasn't in one of them! :uhoh:

Have you seen the video clip of the 0 ft 70kts ejection in the tucano?
Even that one looked very close but at least you would still be alive.

I was sat at my desk (about 200 yds from the Harvard) when the ejection happened.
There was a tremendous bang/booming sound which reminded me of a Hawk ejection at Valley. Quickly followed by the ATC crash alarm...
It was the studes first trip in the Harvard (wonder what score he got for his ground checks ?) and it was pre-taxi with the donk running.
The seat worked as advertised and he is actually fine considering the ride/parachute descent from approx 200'. It would be a different story if it was a Tincan....
The QFI stayed put in the backseat and got cut on the face by flying canopy glass, but he's OK too.

Overall, a great result from a fine ejection seat.:D

Anyone wish to suggest a nickname/callsign for the stude ?

Am sure he had a good reason for ejecting on the taxi out on trip 1. Can't wait to hear it. Things can only go one way from there surely :ok:
(I would say "up" but the irony and wit involved in such a comment is beyond me;) )

He just wanted to be the first on the course to log "0.1 Captain"

Well, I'd heard tell that the first time often results in premature ejection, or something like that... :)
