Forgive me if I've missed a previous post about this, but am I the only one who makes a connection between two of the busiest threads on here?
Long hours and changed shift/sleep patterns cause tiredness, stress and disrupted social lives.
And a popular way of dealing with tiredness, stress and disrupted social lives is? Alcohol.

Ah, the good old days where your pattern was two or three days in a five star hotel. Flying from party to party and being paid for it!:ok:

And excessive use of alcohol actually increases fatigue due to sleep disruption...

I know who I'd rather be flying with. If any pilot needs a few pints in order to sleep in a strange hotel after a busy day, then good luck to him. A tired pilot is far more dangerous. There's far too much fuss made about alcohol; it's fine provided folk don't go mad.
