This out today:

A light aircraft from a Pretoria flying school burst two tyres while attempting to take off from Maputo, causing flight delays of two hours at the airport there, Vista News reported on Wednesday. Ernesto Junior, director of the Maputo International Airport, confirmed to the daily Noticias that "an incident involving an aircraft owned by a flying school" had resulted in a two-hour delay of a scheduled LAM (Mozambique national airline) commercial flight to Tete and Quelimane provinces. The paper said two tyres of the aircraft burst at take-off from the international airport on Tuesday afternoon. Junior said the South African-registered aircraft was removed with the assistance of the national civil aviation institute. This involved the temporary closure of the airport. Authorities could not immediately say what had caused the tyres to burst.

The incident comes after a similar incident on Sunday at Beira, where four tyres of a Boeing 737 operated by LAM burst on landing. Airline authorities blamed the incident on poor visibility caused by poor weather conditions. A commission of inquiry has since been established to investigate the Beira incident.

Regarding

Don't be confused. Don't you realise he should have had wet weather tyres on, as opposed to slicks. Aircraft take off about the same speed as a formula one car and therefore must use the same type of tyres.
But thankfully Formula 1 has recently changed the ruling regarding tyre markings, therefore this can also be applied to aviation. ATC will be able to tell from the tower if you have the correct tyres for take off weather conditions.

Kees van de Grint, Bridgestone Motorsport Head of Track Engineering Operations revealed: "We have found a better solution by marking the bottom of the second from inside tyre groove white. This has received a positive response from teams and onlookers at the test. It is time consuming to apply to the tyres but is clearly visible on track."

Now let me go to the shops and buy a bubble for my spirit level :(

Never mind the white lines on the tyres - white knuckles must have been the order of the day in the 737 cockpit. With four mains gone, not much to do but hang on I guess.

How hard must a landing be to burst the mains???

On a serious note

should you wish to learn about aviation tyres, results of under/overinflation etc
click on

click on technical documents and download the training documents

The Goodyear office, Germiston, also runs very good and free aviation tyre coarses (and if you serious you will look up telephone directory, so I'll not put tel number here for the marketers to get their hands on):ok:
