TOKYO – A Japan Airlines jetliner carrying 259 people, including the country's finance minister, made a successful emergency landing in western Japan Tuesday with only one of its two engines working.
The Boeing 777-200 plane was on its way from Tokyo to Fukuoka when the right-side engine overheated and had to be shut off, Japan Airlines spokesman Yo****eru Suzuki said. The plane landed without incident shortly after 5 p.m.
Live television footage showed the white and red jet coast in for an easy landing at the Fukuoka airport after circling the airfield to burn off excess fuel.
Among the passengers was Finance Minister Koji Omi, who helps oversee the world's second-largest economy. The Finance Ministry said he was traveling on personal business.
The plane was carrying 10 crew members and 249 passengers, Suzuki said.

LOL! Make sure next time you do a precautionary shut-down that there is a minister on board, better yet, a head of state!

I agree Francis.
Here here.
Had to shut one down last year and landed in SNN. Very uneventful yet attention getting but didn't even make the local papers never mind the relms of this forum.
Suck it up lads.:ok:

Thousands of aircraft take off and land on one engine every day. What do you want, a medal? :p

Why do you have to burn off fuel to land if you were going to FUK anyway?

Maybe its so much more efficient on one!!

Surely a candidate for the missing consonant feature......

since the media dramatics aren't ever going to go away, maybe it should be used to our advantage........

"Yes with the lives of the pax at risk the crew carried out an emergency landing on only one engine, which they are prepared and trained for every minute of every day they go to work. Therefore they should all be paid accordingly with the Captain on at least the $30-40K USD a month a surgeon gets for doing a similar job (in training and stress levels) with only one life at risk."

On one hand the media go on about emergencies out of nothing, on the other hand the renumeration and conditions of the job go down the toilet. wtf?
