Ysterday FlyLal 737 landed on taxiway in Hurgada :ooh: , luckly there were no other aircraft. Crew has been kept for 2 hours in HRG then released to fly back to VNO. Lithuanian CAA has started the investigation.

Whoops, was it at night?

As you can see the two parallel trips of tarmac.

You must look at the charts, and brief for landing on the runway. Its not too difficult! (Most runways have parallel taxiways, and some of them are old runways, as at HRG....but even so...):ugh:

A HUMBLE REQUEST TO THE MODERATORS :O

Could you PLEASE encourage people to name the airports being referred to ? Pprune is a world-wide forum... it's excrutiatingly irritating to have remote airports referred to by their 3 letter designator...with the exception of the more notable airports it means nothing to most of us.. Thank you :D

Just bookmark the following page:

There are plenty more out there, and this one is as good as any of them.

My curiosity stems not from the location of this place but why on earth would anyone want to go there?

Might have something to do with being the No.1 diving location in the world. That's the Red Sea at the far end of the runway.

HEGN/HRG why go there?, coz it's got oil, coz it's got sun/sand/sea (Red Sea coast) & as you'll see from the pic, tis/was a EAF front line air defence base as just over the Red Sea from Sinai and down the Gulf of Aqaba from LLOV/VDA Ovda Air Base in Israel. Well loved place for Northern Europeans for winter sun & fun. In the old days lots of expats in JED took the ferry over as Egyptian boats were wet (booze wise) for a days round trip JED/HRG/JED.

Not pleasant arriving in low vis blowing sand with a few Migs blasting off the (now) parallel taxiway with ATC telling they're holding for your landing.

would the location of the PAPI ave played a role in the mishap?
