Hi guys,

does anybody knows whether CX has certain requirements regarding BMI ( body mass index)for their initial medical?

Tried to search but nothing came back....

Thanks a lot

PS: does anybody knows the latest added destination on CX network? Thanks

You must be an American. I have heard mixed about BMI at CX. Your best bet is to stop eating and start running. ;)

Went I joined I had a BMI of 28.5, and I was told that was near the upper limit. So above 30 would be pushing your luck!

The Doctors at CX say that most guys put on about 1 kg a year here... I've lost over 10kg since I joined (BMI 24), so I guess it's all about will power.

No , I am not american! What kind of a question is that? Very grown up!

The reason I ask is because in Europe people are walking away from the BMI index because it does not work for all types of Human beings!

Myself I have a BMI of 29.5. But I have almost no Bodyfat. I have never broken a bone in my life! So the weight sits in my skeleton!

So if the upper limit would be 29 ( as it is in the rest of china) I would fail my medical although I am considered to be in perfect health!

In Europe they start measuring now your waist as that is the place where the dangerous fat stocks up. If your waist is below 1m you are fine!

So please, watch out when jumping to conclusions...:ok:

Sgnr de L'Atlantique don't worry about it then! If you are healthy the doctors will see that. Good luck :ok:

When I did the interview I was 181 cm 104 kg (so that's BMI just over 32) and the doctor (forget his name, but very nice english chap who I believe is the chief doctor for CX) didn't seem to have a problem with it or give me any hassle.

No I didn't get the job either, but I suspect that's probably more to do with the fact that I flew the simulator like a steaming pile of merde :{

Generally it seems BMI over 30 causes troubles in Asia, conformity/uniformity is a highly desired situation and so anyone "outside the box" eg. the gym person who's weight is muscle or the marathon runner who's BMI is "magnificent" but his resting heart rate is "too low", cause huge amounts of anguish and gnashing of teeth - it is then far easier to "fail" a person than to consider anything "outside the box."

Attitudes take a long time to change in Asia, suspect the BMI position will hang on for grim death regardless of whatever changes elsewhere in the world and the evidence that caused those changes.

The strangest part of it all - whilst the western world now accepts that smoking is actually bad for you and should be discouraged Asia do not yet realise or accept this fact so it is fine to smoke yourself to death, just make sure your BMI is in the "acceptable" range and all is OK! :ugh:
