View Full Version : Philippine trip - need to hire aircraft

Howdy,
Will be going to Pinas soon, would anyone recommend a good outfit to hire a twin engine aircraft from ? Preferably a BE76 Duchess or a PA31 Piper Chieftain. If all else fails, a Cessna 172 will do. Will be in Manila.

Never flown in the Philippines so I probably need an instructor to take me through some of my questions. I probably need to hire the aircraft for more than 10 hours to get used to the procedures and radio calls. You can fly with me if you want.

Also, any advise on how to convert my Australian license to a Philippine license will be much appreciated.

By the way, does anyone also have a copy of the Instrument Approach plates for Manila and others that I can borrow while there ? Maybe Jepps.

Thanks everyone

I am not sure if these are still the conversion procedures in ATO. Considering that your license is current, what I know is that you have to sit in for the Air Law exam, every thursdays if I am not mistaken. You have to fly for 10-15 hours on type (c-150/152/172 or whatever SEL you want) then checkride to be put in your license as your rating. For the IR, an ICC will be done. For the medical, I am not sure if they will recognize your current certificate. If ever they don't, bring chest x-ray and ECG from a recognized clinic/hospital. The audio/visual, dental and urinalysis will be done in the ATO clinic. If you are above 45yrs.old, I guess they will require you to run on the threadmill for some minutes.

Guys, please correct or add info regarding this matter for I am not sure if these are still the procedures in ATO. I'm still waiting for the reply of my friends there regarding this.

Goodluck and enjoy your pagbabalik bayan D6:ok:

Hi,

I think the conversion process requires you to fly 10-15 hours:) One of my friend was assisted by Omni Aviation, I'm not sure what the exact processes are involved though:)

Where is Omni Aviation, is that in Clark ? Anyway, Jetcruiser has already given me a name in Manila who has a twin. So, that covers that area pretty much.

"Ubos na naman ang credit card ko pag-uwi ko".... darn. But it would be fun I guess. No definite date yet kabayans, but soon.

In regards to fitness - why wouldn't they accept my Class 1 medical ?
And c'mon, I am nowhere near 45..... "huwag naman ninyo akong patandain "
Although I can take on the threadmill straight for 10 mins set on speed 8 :E .
I have to thank Fitness First for that :ok: .

Yes, I will be flying for 10-15 hours to see the Phils from the air. It's been awhile and I'm sure it will be good to be home after so many years.

Do they have the services of the likes of Center and Radar (outside the jurisdiction of Deps and Arrivals ) ?... I'm sure they would have a Departures and Approach frequencies plus the tower.

Where I am, we have the Departures and Approach Procedures documents separate from the detailed runway infos'. Do you guys just rely on one document - Jeppesens ? Please fill me in.

Thanks everyone

Any suggestions to where to go would be appreciated everyone. Let me know what's special about the place and I'll go there.

Or....your can build time and see Palawan from the right seat on my Piper Aztec for less than then what you'll pay in a Cessna 150. Check out www.frontieraircharters.com (http://www.frontieraircharters.com).

Oh hi Thrust Climb - I forgot about you.....he-he-he...:} ... sorry pards.

Yeah why not.... the thing is, I know that I don't have an endorsement in the Aztec but I need to fly left seat. However, who did you have in mind to fly left for me ? Does your Aztec have a GPS or an RMI/ADF ?

Thanks Thurst Clb, I'll call you when I get there.

Vinciboy, good photos. Keep ém coming. Does the Ilocos runway have an instrument approach ?

DirectJomalig - which one is closer to Ilocos Sur - Vigan or Laoag airport ?
Are the Philippine Rabbit buses operating from the airport to anywhere there? (if they are still operating)

Thanks

Hi DeltaSix,

Yes Laoag has an instrument runway, they do have a published instrument approach :)

Hi thrust clb,

Wow, I used to see that Aztec at omni last year before it was repainted with a new reg right?

Can I fly with you as well? I would like to have a multi rating one of these days, is it possible if I can fly left seat as well?

You can also RON at San Fernando, La Union and stay in villa estrella(if im not mistaken) in bauan, just some 5 mins drive from the airport. A good hotel resort fronting the beach. But the best part there is when the sun sets:E ...good live show goin on there dude;)

Hi pinoypiloto,
Are you the one from Melbourne I was talking to a few months ago ?
Yeah, I've heard no Center but I think they might have Radar in their Class C or A airspaces ( or it's equivalent), what's the coverage ?

Also, what's the situation in the class G airspaces in terms of IFR to IFR separation if no Center or Radar ? I suppose it will be the same as us in terms of the VFR advisory.

What about the CTAF or MBZ in their uncontrolled aerodromes ?

I have XXX hrs in the BE76 and XXX in the Piper Chieftain. Let me know if you have them, otherwise it will be a C172 for conversion purposes.

Thanks PP - looking forward to talking to you
check your pm.
